Hi everyone! I'm a prospective PsyD student applying this cycle, and was hoping I could have someone read over my personal statement and provide some edits. It's very different than the typical PhD applications, so I'm struggling with adding introspective thought and identity into the mix. All help is well appreciated!

I'll be applying to Boston College and the Stanford-PAU programs.

The psyd program expectations for your personal essay are REALLY NOT different than a PhD Program. I know they ask "why do you want to go to our program".

They do not want to hear you or your family member struggled with mental illness.
They want to hear that you will be a submissive student, who does whatever is asked (aka assists the professors in their projects), accepts their instructions without preconceived notions, and will get into an awesome internship that boosts their stats. There's a lot on this subject on SDN.

Boston College's program is new for this year and is fully unfunded. It's already a super expensive school. Proceed with caution. It's not a bad school by any means all, but just because it has a great Counseling Psych PhD program doesn't mean the Clinical Psych PsyD is going to be on par.
