I really thought I would have everything set to apply this June. I did well on the DAT (AA 22 TS 22 PA 20)and maintained a very high GPA (3.93). Now that we are a month and a few away from applying, everything is not going well.
Starting with the personal statement, I have had maybe 5 people review it and I am getting mixed reviews. Some people love it, some hate it. My writing also sucks, so I am not sure who to believe or what to change.

The professors that were supposed to write me letters pretty much bailed on me. So now, I am hunting for new ones and have only been receiving declines because of how late I am asking them for it and because its been a year since my graduation.

The dentist I am shadowing doesn't seem like he wants to write me a letter simply because of how busy he is! He does have four clinics and a lab, so he barely has time to scratch his head. He said he will have to see if he can find time to write it.

Finally, if I apply. I am worried about supplemental applications because of how bad my writing is. My friend who is a great writer promised to help, but she seems like she is so busy and has yet to review my PS.

I honestly do not know what to do. I am not sure that I will find letters. I am not sure if adcom will find me well rounded. I am simply just high grades and some volunteering.

Should I take science courses in the summer and apply in August so I can get LORs? Should I pay someone to write me my PS, although I don't think I am comfortable with doing that...

Any advice? this is kind of a rant sorry...

At least you're not failing classes and border lining a 3.0 😛

My friend this year is having dentist LOR issues too. The dentist simply told him to write a letter and he'll sign it. Perhaps you could suggest the same if you feel ethnically okay with that. If not, shadow a new dentist and get some hours(50-100, depends on the school). You could put both shadowing experiences too.

You should have been a bit earlier with those professor recommendations. I had 2 sci LOR during my 2nd year and I wasn't even 100% set on dentistry at the time. Hunt down old professors, bring in a personal statement and resume to help give them more juice to work with. Usually two sci and a general one. I even had an online class professor write me a letter! Tell them you're applying to dental school and I'm sure someone will be kind.

If your friend is a great writer and you feel you really need the help, its time to introduce her to some old U.S presidents. Money talks and her calendar will free up. Don't think less of her, just how it is sometimes.

Good luck, you'll do fine. At least you have more than a month to bring it together. Your GPA is awesome, DAT is great. Maybe volunteer a little more before you submit app. Just finish this last lap and you'll end up cruising along this application cycle.

When you're application is completed the first thing schools look at is GPA and DAT scores. You'll already impress people with yours so don't get too discouraged. Then they look at the other stuff. Just push forward. Most supplemental applications don't require much writing at all.

Wow, the professors at your school sound like douchbags. Go visit the professors in person and ask for the letters, it's harder to say no if you are there in person. If they are hesitant, I'm sure you can charm them to say yes. Shadow new dentists, if you are good at making connections, sociable, and likable, some of them will write you great letters after just a day of shadowing. Since you are short on professors, do 2 profs and 2 dentists. Don't pressure them too much about June deadline though, since AADSAS's transcript portion takes like a month to process, you really don't need the letter til July. Regarding the letter, send me a copy and I will look at it. While I'm not the best writer, I'm good enough writer for dental schools.

Also, don't take any extra courses, save money for the interviews and make a vacation out of them. I did and not only did it take the pressure off of interviews, vacationing in so many different cities really changed my outlook on life.

The dentist you shadowed is selfish whether or not he works in 4 clinics. He can find time to write you a letter. Its too bad you couldn't go back in time and shadow someone who doesn't only think about themselves

Thank you for replying. I think I may have to visit them in person. Regarding reviewing my personal statement. do you have an email I can send it to you?
