Application "Status"

Has anybody ever called (or know if this would be a good or bad idea) to call an admissions office and ask if their application has been reviewed by the ADCOM yet. Because if you ask what your status is they'll just say "under/awaiting review." I wonder if they'd tell you if it's past through the ADCOM once or twice yet.
