I just submitted my AADSAS application, and I am hoping someone here can answer a couple of questions for me...

1. What are the chances of my application being sent in the first "batch" out to schools? My transcripts were already received, and all of my LOE's have been submitted or are being submitted electronically by the end of the week. I've read that the first mailing usually occurs during the first week of July. That leaves me about a week.5 to get transcripts verified, and I've heard varying stories about how long it actually takes (AADSAS claims 4-6 weeks). Are there any super early submitters or previous applicants who can verify?
2. Now that AADSAS is automatically uploading our DAT scores, we DO NOT need to send official copies to schools, correct? In the supplemental section, most schools still require DAT scores sent at the same time you submit AADSAS, but I'm hoping this is just old information that hasn't been updated.

Thanks for any help, and good luck to everyone applying this cycle!

Go to the dental school designations tab on AADSAS. If you're in the first batch your mailing date will say July 2. If it doesn't say a date then you are not in the first mailing batch.

When it says July 2 does that mean when it is going to reach the schools or when they are actually going to be mailed out?

One more question...

If our applications aren't being sent to schools in the 07/02 mailing, do you think we should hold off on sending supplemental material (i.e. checks and photos)? I want everything to be there ASAP, but if they don't have our application/AADSAS ID, will they have anything to which it can match?

I would like to know that too. I think I'm going to mail it out the day after my app is mailed because it might create less confusion and less administrative errors. Besides, most school will sit on the apps for a while before they start reviewing anyways.

Three Blind Mice, does your school designation say July 2nd? and if so, when did you e-submit? I wanted to be a part of the first batch and e-submitted over a week ago yet mine does not say anything in the mailing date, definitely going to be a bummer if that really means I will be in the 2nd group. Do other peoples say July 2nd??

Thanks for your help everyone.

Chill out. whether you're first or second batch is not going to make much of a difference. There are like 13 batches or so sent out from what I understood. As long as you're not in batch 7,8 or higher, you should be good at most schools. Some schools like Umich are VERY slow, and others like marquette, minn, temple, midwestern, are very fast at sending out interview invites. I was in mailing 9 or 10 and still had too many interview invites.
BOTTOM LINE: It's going to do what it's going to do, once you submit, you can't do anything about it, so why panic and have yourself a coronary over something you can't control?

Well I did apply to temple, midwestern and Marquette ha and although there is nothing I can do about it now, it is still frustrating as I thought I would make the first batch. Goffdent, do you think these schools will take from the 2nd and 3rd batch then? I know there is now way to know for sure but I'd like your opinion on the matter as you seem to know what you're talking about

i was in like the tenth batch according to michigan.. My app was mailed out on september 1st. Michigan still had not come to my file because in october they told me they were still on mailing #7 or 8 and wouldn't get to mine for at least a month.(that's practically December!!)

ON the other hand... schools like marquette, minnesota, temple, iowa, and Nova all contacted me within a couple weeks for interviews in october and November. Midwester, Penn, Pitt, Case also offered me interviews, some in december, others in january, February, or EVEN in April! Like ai said, Michigan toldme i was in about mailing #10 and Mine didn't get mailed till september 1st since I wanted my recent DAT score to be the one they saw. I waited it out, it's risky, but it worked out for me. If you have your app submitted by the end of July, I would say you have just as good of a chance as someone who submitted last week. My opinion... but i have been through this 3 times and learned how to apply smart. (obivously late wasn't smart, but i had my reasons)

Thanks goff I really appreciate your time and congrats on the acceptances, if you don't mind, now I am just curious, when did you e-submit last cycle and what were your DAT scores that year and the 2 years prior?

Ha so just when did you e-submit and what were old scores? you definitely had a solid app with newer DAT and 9 dentists

I E-submitted around August 18th. It took almost 2 weeks for AADSAS to Mail my stuff out, which was September 1st. I don't remember all my scores but I think I had a 18AA 17TS 19PA then a 17AA 18TS 22PA, then 20AA 21TS 23PA. On the last test, I took the online Kaplan course, which helped out a lot. I'm out of college for over 4 years now, so things were getting less and less fresh for me.

Well congrats to sticking with it and improving your scores - I have a 20/21/21 and 3.62/3.56 but without the 9 dentists ha, only a few - it may take me a couple cycles as well but I'm obviously hoping it won't - what have you been doing since you graduated, working? more school?

thanks! Actually, the big thing that held me back was i didn't apply smart, I didn't apply to the right schools, and my DAT was too low. Once i boosted that, it worked out. I applied really late and still received 9 of 15 interviews, and only went to 5. I've been working as a scientist for a Biotech company for over 3.5 years now. So this is a career change, a lifestyle change, etc..

oh and I did buy the Official ADEA guide, and that's one way I applied "SMART"
