This might be heresy but I have been contemplating applying for two different fellowship matches, in the same year.
I would be really appreciative if anyone would comment on (either with personal experiences or an experience with someone you know):
1. logistics--is this even possible to create 2 applications in the same year?
2. applying to two programs at the same facility--are they really talking to each other? do i need to be worried about fallout?
3. strategies, i.e: apply to university programs for the more less competitive match; community for the more competitive one.
4. is it being too honest to say (at least amongst us) that ultimately medicine is a wonderful subject and it is possible to be happy doing most anything? obviously don't want to discuss it on an interview for a job, and i understand that sub-specialists are proud of their professions, but what's the big deal?
I must disclose that distance from family and the program environment are also very, very important considerations. Living across the country is not an option. I do realize that applications for all specialties will be up across the board next year, and the importance of research/LORs/etc to get the job done.
