Do any students still do this?

I haven't really heard of any students recently who attended d school w/o a bachelor's degree. Is it still possible to do, besides that "advantage" program at UoP?

I'm just asking out of curiosity..

If you know of any success stories let me know.

I met a student at NYU dental who didn't get his bachelors. But aside from that, at pretty much the rest of the schools I interviewed at, the bachelors rate was 100%.

I think not getting a bachelors before matriculating into dental school is a serious disadvantage in the eyes of the adcoms. If you have stratospheric DAT scores, perhaps some schools will take you, but it's likely that the elite schools will reject you.

You should get the ADEA book

Some guy on SDN did it this past year. He had 3.9x and 24 or 25 AA, applied to the three Texas schools (he was from Texas), and got accepted to two of them last I heard. I think it was mddawg or something like that; I haven't seen him post in a while.

i know a few that graduated undergrad in 3 and went to good dschools, but outside of advanced placement programs like uop, not too common. speaking of their 2+3 advanced program, i remember hearing them having a 2nd year dental student turning either 20 or 21 this year.

also, if you're physci at ucla, it's not uncommon to finish in 3 years if you're on the right track for their classes. i know a few that went to med school after 3 years. but then again, many physci majors with that option still feel that there's no rush 🙂

Yea, it IS possible to simply finish undergrad earlier and apply to dental school earlier. This is a very viable option. In fact, I tried to do this the first time around, but didn't have the DAT scores to make myself competitive.

Yeah, i just thought it was a fun idea to play around with. I dont really plan on finishing early or anything. And I like knowing that I have so much time left to do stuff that i havent had a chance to do yet (research, minor, travel, and other fun stuff). So I'll probably just stick to the original (traditional) plan.
