I want to apply to dental school for the fall of 2005, and was wondering when the best time to take the DAT would be. Since we have to apply a year in advance, do you think I should take it this summer? Or during this spring?

Study methods vary between people, but if it was me I would take it in the summer when I have a solid bloc of time to study for it without having to worry about anything else (exams, term papers, etc).

Do what works for you. Good luck!

Yeah I've thought of that!
But do you think I should take it in the spring so in case i dont do well I can retake it?

Only you can really decide when to take it. How can any of us know whether or not you will do well in the Spring. I think if you put enough work into it, you won't need to take it more than once. I plan on taking it during the late summer. If I don't do well (which won't happen), I'll take it again in November. While taking it again this late in the cycle will make me too late for some schools, I'll still have some options available.

Sounds like you are planning to fail? Be confident, you'll do great the first time. Take the test when you feel confident and ready.

If I were you, if you are planning on taking a prep class (i.e. Kaplan), I would take that in the spring, and then take the first month of your summer and solely study for the DAT in that month. I don't know when you get out of school, but if you get out in May, take your DAT at the end of June, or early July, you'll have plenty of time to get your AADSAS in with your new scores, and still be applying a lot earlier than others.
