Hello All,

I apologize for this repetitive question. If someone could please assist me as I am in need of some advice from knowledgeable students on this thread. I am looking to apply to dental school this cycle. However, I still have not taken the DAT yet. If someone could PM me or help me on a timeline to apply to dental school that would be awesome. I do have my DentPin, I just have not registered yet. Am I too late?

Undergrad GPA: cGPA is 3.6, sGPA is 3.4
Masters in Anatomy: cGPA 3.0

Thanks in advance.

It looks like you're at the beginning stages of considering dentistry. At this point, rather than asking hundreds of questions to us, you should do some searching on your own for basic information. There's just too much info that's too easily accessible out there already.

This is a good starting point:

Is the rest of your application ready to go? Have you done 100 shadowing hours, what are your extracurriculars, do you have your letters of recommendation done and ready to be sent?

Honestly, your GPA, especially your Master's GPA, is going to be a huge mark on your application. I don't know if you have studied for the DAT, but lets assume you have and you are ready to go. If you sign up today, it will be probably Wednesday before you get your verification to register for your test. Most testing centers are booked weeks in advance. Let's say you get lucky and get your test scheduled for August 10th. It takes about 2 weeks after that for your scores to be verified, so if you apply today, get in everything else, get your GPA verified, which right now is taking at least 2 weeks, your LOR's get submitted, etc. you are looking at the end of August, minimum, before your application is sent out, by which time, most schools will be or have extended, interview offers. That's not to say they don't continue to do so, but with a 3.6 undergrad GPA dipping down to a 3.0 Masters, unless you have something else on your application that REALLY shines, I wouldn't count on interviews this cycle. By all means apply, but I would also look into taking post-bac classes this year and getting a 4.0 in those classes. The average GPA for accepted dental students last year was 3.56 with an average DAT of 19.9. Most schools want to see higher grades for a Master's degree and I think that average GPA was in the 3.7 range. Your UG GPA alone would have been fine if you applied right after you graduated. Now, if you can knock the DAT out of the park, 24+, that might perk some interest.
