Hi I am a second-year neurology resident and I was considering applying for my permanent license during this year because I heard that it is beneficial to have a permanent/full license in any state as early as possible because Medicare and Medicaid reimburses you for How long you have been working/Have had a permanent license in the state.

Has anyone else done this or what anyone else recommend this? I have already passed my step three and completed internship. Would this Affect anything in residency? Thank you

Agree with both aPD and cabinbuilder. Unless you can cite your source, I'm going to chalk this up to crazy talk and forget I ever heard it.

Unless you've got moonlighting opportunities available to you or your program requires it, there's no real benefit to a permanent/full license over a training license. Check with your state and see if there's some sort of cost differential between the temp and perm licenses. If not, go for it, you've got (almost) nothing to lose.

The "almost" is that, if/when you apply for licenses in other states, they will review prior licensing history. The more state license you have, the longer that will take. It's a fairly minor issue all things considered, but there are some states where it can be a major delay.
