I worked retail from 1994-2005 and then transitioned into hospital. I also moonlighted until 2015 in retail (sporadically). I tried something new last 8 months and was let go from that job in May and am now registry for a hospital. The competition is FIERCE . Do you think I would have a chance getting a full time retail job now? Thoughts?

Chance? Sure. It'd be very difficult depending on the area. My district...we have an abundance of interns in the pipeline and I don't foresee my DM hiring any time soon...he doesn't even look at applications without recent retail experience....and on top of that, stores have been reduced to 9-9 and few 24 hours stores left. We have grad interns that were hired on as floaters the previous year that still dont get 40 hours. I'd say cast a wide net and take on any gig you can get just so you don't have a huge gap in your employment which would become even more of a red flag.
 
It'll be tough with new grads applying everywhere. You will have better luck during flu season. I don't know your financial situation, but if you can afford accepting part time to start that may help. It will put recent retail experience on your resume, and you may get bumped to full time if you show you're an asset, or will help applying for other full time openings. It's best to take what you can get starting out to avoid big resume gaps. Even in a tough market, I usually see part time positions open up pretty frequently.
 
Accept the job with the crappiest/least for sure hours and hope to transition/work extra. Our last PRN Pharmacist worked Fri-Sun only evenings for a few months then snagged the 1st day shift when it opened because he was solid.

I hate this idea, but it's so common now. Plenty of places will hire you PRN as a trial for a full-time position. I saw several pharmacists get hired on after 6 months of part-time/PRN work. Funny thing, we gave them 40 hours a week despite their "PRN" status. No benefits, hmm.
