So I'm a recent grad who JUST decided to pursue a career in OT. I wish I would've known earlier so I could've taken some pre-req courses this Fall but alas... It took me a while to decide.

I have checked numerous schools and luckily I am a Psych major who has fulfilled most of the courses.
Courses I have taken:

-Gen Bio II: B grade
-Behavioral Statistics: B Grade [Don't think this will pass as "statistics" which is what most Programs require]
-Cognition: C grade
-Personality Psychology: B grade
-Abnormal Psychology: B grade
-Developmental Psychology: B grade
-Advanced Topics in Human Cognition [Soul Fallacy]: B+ Grade

Cumulative GPA: 3.098

As you can see, not a very competitive student [I did great during my last three semesters, it was the first few that took a hit due to depression]. I also need to take Human Anatomy I & II, and most likely Statistics. I MIGHT have to take a chemistry course but I'm not entirely sure yet.

Lastly, I haven't taken the GRE. I really, really, don't want to take the GRE. But seeing as I have some time, it might be stupid not to take it.

My current plan is to take the pre-req courses in Spring '16 and Summer/Fall '16. Then apply in the Fall for Summer Programs which start in 2017.

The schools I have been looking at are SUNY Downstate, Loma Linda, York, NYU, and Columbia (most likely won't go to NYU or Columbia since the debt would be insane). - None of these schools require GRE scores.

Now, that's my current plan as of now. I'm usually a very disorganized person and I'm trying to get this academic plan set in motion so I know EXACTLY what I need to do.

For the next year I have the opportunity to work as an aide anywhere. I'm a psych major and unemployed at the moment. I was looking at entry-level careers before I decided to become an OT so now that I have somewhat of a path I'm trying to figure out what would be the best ways to strengthen my chances in getting into a Grad School. Perhaps getting CPR certified? Working as an aide? Volunteering? Maybe re-take some of the courses where I got B's and shoot for A's? What do you guys think?

I would definitely recommend taking the GRE. A competitive score there will greatly boost your chances. Study hard for it and try and get above the 70th percentile. I think this goes without saying, but definitely try and get an 'A' in all of those prereq courses. Get a ton of shadowing experience and if you have the opportunity to retake some of those courses, it wouldn't be a bad idea. I'm by no means an expert, just my 2 cents.

A few things...most programs actually prefer psych stats. However, Bs are typically not great at most programs. I'd try to retake some pre reqs if you have room, and get a lot of Shadowing in. Work as a rehab tech or maybe a behavior therapist.
