This is for any current ps fellows, senior gs residents, etc.
I'm starting my gen surg residency this summer. Unfortunately I didn't match integrated, but I'm excited about my program - it's a strong gs program with a good ps fellowship.
Any advice on how to go about paving my pathway to a fellowship? I don't want to tick the gs people off as I'm really interested in learning everything, but I want to make my contacts early.
Any input on research, tactfully getting myself in the nice with the ps people, etc.?

Why would your interest 'tick off' your GS faculty?

PRS is a wonderful field with immense cross-over between GS and other surgical specialties. I would argue that your faculty would be very supportive of your interest and proud, if you matched in Plastics.

My advise would be to establish contact with the PRS faculty on your burn and plastics rotations, and start attending their grand rounds and M&M. Offer to help write up a clinical paper. Do well on your absites. Apply in your 4th year, with intention to start after your chief year. Don't worry about lab research time.

I agree with above and remember try to be the best general surgery resident you can and you shouldn't have any problems getting into PS. Making early contacts won't help if you get a reputation of being lazy.
