Applying late, what are the chances to get in?

Hello, everyone.

I am new here. I hopefully will graduate next May, and I don't want to wait a year to apply
but I am really lost here. Most people say it's a rolling admission and you can't get in unless you apply in July August or something, but If I am willing to take my chances, and get a high score in the DAT, nontraditional student, with high GPA ( shadowing but no research 🙁 )
Do i have a chance to get in the next cycle or do I have to wait a year.

and I have another problem, I really don't know what the exact dates available for taking the dat in 2017?

Can someone please help me, I am so confused .. I really don't want to wait another year!
I know it's a rolling admission, but I hope I hear stories of people who were accepted late

Also, if you can tell me what is considerd too late and what is considerd just late?

then apply..
but I am thinking what if there is no chance, then what? So I wanna know my options before I dive in.

If you can take your DAT ASAP, like by this September or October, you have a chance, since it takes one month for your DAT scores to get processed and sent. Acceptances come Dec 2 at the earliest but there's still rolling admissions meaning that people still get accepted after Dec 2.

Even if you graduate May 2017, that doesn't matter as long as you finished your lower division bio, chem, and physics to meet most dental school requirements.

Honestly I think you're better off spending the time to seriously consider your future into dental school. IMO you will have the chance to be better prepared if you apply for the 2017-2018 cycle. But there's nothing wrong with sending your apps now as long as you take the DAT ASAP.

I see. 3-4 months is alot of prep for the DAT imo. When you sign up for the DAT you can check the dates available, when I registered for mine it was offered multiple times a week so that shouldn't be an issue. If you test in October or November you're kind of crippling yourself because there is a very slim chance you will get a pre-December interview. I'd say take it in August or September at the latest. If you score well you could submit in oct or nov and will be in a good position for a post-December interview, assuming the schools you're applying to have them.

If that's the case, take your DAT in July. You can set aside a few hours a week studying little by little. In fact, you can even start now. Especially with subjects like PAT. After finals next May, hit it hard and take your exam in July. It's not like the MCAT or SAT that's only offered a few times a year. The DAT is available every day.

Thank you so much for this helpful information. I didn't know that the Dat is available almost everyday. yes, I am aware I will still have a gap year, but I just don't want them to be two years . Yeah, I think I better start from now. Any book you recommend?

I recommend you read through the DAT Discussion threads. The go-to stuff is usually Chads videos, Destroyer, and Bootcamp. There are some other resources based on preference, but those are a must.

It's good to know that they offer the dat it in many days. Well, the problem is I am not good with biology, I took A in it, but it was mostly cramming before exams days, in fact I dislike biology. I don't understand why they tell me about what this cell is called and what it actually does. I know this is not expected to hear since I should be good with biology and at dental school, they will teach us some even drier materials. Back to Biology, the reason I said I need 3-4 months preparation is because of biology, I will procrastinate reading it, luckily I am good at the other science fields, my major is statistics and I did pretty well in physics( it's not in the dat I know), did well on orgo, and I love general chemistry(Don't we all)
But I don't like BIOLOGY
and i got the cliff notes for biology, it is really dry..got the Barron's biology book as well, but haven't look at it yet.
I noticed kaplan biology is more concise, but more bearable I guess. So what do you suggest for biology for someone who procrastinates reading it while does not mind reading 12 hours organic chemistry or doing math problems.

Thank you, yeah I read about chads videos, and added the bootcamp for my favorite list. I don't want to buy the destroyer materials just yet.
Which book simplifies Biology though? like more questions and answers type of book ?
