I didn't see any recent posts related to my situation, so I was hoping that posting this would draw some of these people in my same position into conversation to give me some advice. I took the Aug. 14th MCAT and got my scores back, which turned out very well. (35Q - BS12/VR10/PS13) However, not having my scores for so long, I wasn't sure where to apply to keep things realistic without wasting my money. Also, I wasn't sure if my score would make up for a lack of EC's in the end. All I have is about a month and a half of research in organic chemistry and I've been working in the surgery unit at a hospital for a few months now. I would have great LORs and my GPA is fairly decent (about 3.75 both overall and science). Question being, without even having in my primary at this time, am I completely s.o.l. if I want to try to go for 2008? I am on the fence completely, as taking a year off for full-time cancer research and volunteering would both be rewarding and strengthen my application to a highly-competitive level. It would also be a nice break from the regular schedules I've been on for so long. However, getting in for 2008 would be great as well. I plan on applying to all Ohio schools (hopefully in at OSU) and also any other schools that accept a fair percent of out-of-staters (I have a list of these from the out-of-state matriculant percentages from each school). Any help I can get would be awesome. Also, hopefully some other late people will use this opportunity to get some advice. Thanks everyone.
