Hey there,

I know the general consensus is that reapplying is bad, unless you make significant changes to your application.

Here's my situation: Just finished second year and am likely going to apply to schools so that I might get in after third year. (Yes, I know it's late in the application cycle).

SO, chances are I won't be accepted, and I'll want to reapply next year.

If I apply to school X, get rejected, and reapply next year to school X, then of course the school will know I've been through the application process before.

But what about school Y? If I didn't apply to their school the first time around, will they know I've been through the cycle before? Say I didn't meet school Y's pre-reqs my first time through the cycle, but will the second time around. Will my chances at school Y be hurt that I didn't apply to them the first time? It's not like they were "undesirable" for me or anything.

And, if school X rejected me the first time, but I reapply after 3rd year, and hence will have a bachelor's degree by the time I matriculate, is that not a significant enough improvement to warrant school X not discard my application simply because I've applied before?

There aren't very many schools I can apply to after only second year, without an English credit, and not expecting my bachelor's before matriculation. But I'd be happy to go to any one of those I do qualify for, and figure that I haven't really got much to lose if I apply this year. Maybe I won't be able to reapply to school X, but schools Y,Z,A,B, and C will be just as willing to look at my app next year, right?

Thanks!

Stop over thinking things. Re-applying is not bad.

Do what you gotta do. Make your application shine. Figure out what went wrong the first time, LOR? MCAT? Grades? Interview?

Good luck.

Assuming your not a troll (stretch):

Wait a year so you can finish your BS before you start, you are only wasting time & money to apply now. Not to mention you don't have all the pre-reqs & the MCAT covered.

But, to humor you....your application asks if you have applied before, so yes everyone will know you tried. And applying now and then in 2 years makes you look like an idiot for wasting the time & money to apply before you stand a chance to get in.

Most if not all schools will NOT accept a student without a BA/BS. Waiting to apply is your best bet.

CodeBlu, the OP is claiming to be a SOPHOMORE and applying without even finishing the pre-reqs.

Wow, quick replies!

I've taken a look through the pre-reqs for some schools and I've found a couple that don't require a bachelor's.

I'm not saying I don't meet the pre-reqs. I meet them for schools that don't need English (which there are a few).

I've already started the AMCAS application for this cycle, and I haven't located anywhere where it asks if you've applied before (in general), though I have located the check box that asks if you've applied to this particular school before.

Not requiring one does not mean you can get in without one. Most of the applicants you will be up against will have one or maybe two, many have masters or PhDs. Don't bother. Unless you cured cancer, it wont work...otherwise everyone would be doing it!

Have you taken the MCAT? 100% of US schools require it. As for a BS, yes there are a few that say they will take students w/o. But in all reality, why would any school do so when they have too many applicants that do have a BS?

I would check out the % accepted with a bachelors on each school's website. Although a bachelors isn't a requirement, usually 99%-100% of those accepted do have a bachelors.

Yep, I'm working on the MCAT right now (it's in August so schools will look at it) hence my delayed application.

But guys, I know my chances aren't great. That's not the point of the thread.

I'm wondering if I'm shooting myself in the foot by applying this year?

I might waste time/money, but heck it's pennies compared to a medical education!

Yes. With (only) 2 years' worth of coursework and ECs, a late MCAT and even later application submission, you really don't stand a chance this cycle. While reapplying is not necessarily a bad thing, applying now for the sake of applying is just imprudent.
