We are all very opinionated, that's great! I am sorry if i offended some of you by saying it was "stupid" to apply to excessive amounts of schools. I was not trying to attack anyone. Trust me, if I don't get into either of the two schools I am applying to I might feel like the stupid one. I'll just have to try again next year, and keep on truckin'.

and didn't anyone take statistics? You're better off getting a good sample than attempting to canvass the entire population of pharmacy schools. Pick a handful of schools that you are competitive to, 2-3 where you are on the higher end of the averages, and 2-3 where you are on the lower end.

If you live in Oregon and have a 2.8, 60 PCAT, and have horrible acne/social skills...you shouldn't be applying to places like UMich, UCSF, and UCSD. Not only are you not competitive in stats, you probably are at a disadvantage by being a non-resident as these institutions have preference for in-state applicants.

C'mon people...be smart. But if you've got that trust fund, then by all means part with that money and help grease the economy.

i lol'd

applied to 8 schools...got deferred from one (first choice), havent heard from the rest...
and i had eggs and ham for breakfast

she's lying, only an idiot with a trust fund would apply to 48 schools

I don't think it was 48, but someone did apply to a similar number of schools in 2005 at least. LINK

Four people submitted more than 40 PharmCAS applications and that doesn't even consider the non-PharmCAS schools.

To the rest of the discussion, even this dated data shows that 10+ application isn't really the norm. If you have the stats, then under ten apps is plenty if you choose correctly. If your stats are borderline, then you need to do research and select schools for which you may have a good chance for acceptance like in-state schools and newly accredited schools. Applying to a school like Drake when they mainly take their undergrads with you only having a 3.0 is rather misguided.

As I suspected, for that 2005 data for everyone who applied to 29 or more schools, there was only one acceptance to one pharmacy school out of the bunch. However, that one person did apply to 43 schools and did get in somewhere, so I guess it paid off to apply to so many! Of course, the other people who applied to 30-40 schools did not get accepted, so they are out several grand and have nothing to show for it.

According to the chart, 32.7% of those who applied to one school got an acceptance. 28.9% of those who applied to two schools got in to at least one. 31% of those who applied to 3 schools, 31.4% for 4 schools, 34.5% for 5 schools, 33% for 6 schools. Hmm. So far it looks like your chances of getting into at least one school are pretty much the same no matter how many schools you apply to. I'm guessing that's because those with really good stats only apply to one school that they are pretty sure they can get into, while those with weaker stats have to apply to a bunch.

You're so much more diplomatic than I am 👍 haha, no wonder you are an uber mod.

wow..didnt know my post would cause so much controversy..
and sorry to burst your bubbles, but i AM unique and worthy of pharmacy.. more than you know.. i just think that the more places i apply, the more chances i have of getting in.. what's wrong with that? if you don't want to apply to that many, then good for you.. but i DO, so i will... geeez people.. and if you really need to know.. u can PM me about my stats 😎

Sorry about that but I am just wondering how much money did you spent in all and have you gotten interview yet. I am sure you will be accepted somewhere with that much schools. You have more chances than ever to get in. More bulleye to hit.

I'm not applying yet, but I have a friend who applied to 15 schools. Spent alot of money, but she only applied to two last year and didnt get in... so she wants to increase her odds 🙂

I applied to 10 schools because I was NOT confident in my stats at all.
So far I've gotten 7 interviews (the other 3 schools dont interview unitl spring) and 2 acceptances.

Now I regret all the money i spent on applications and plane/hotel for far interviews. BUT i couldnt predict how competitive an applicant I was going to be, so I think it's better to be safe than sorry. The cost of waiting a year and applying again would have been far greater.

i'm def applying to more than 10.........9 for pharm........and a couple for chem eng.......

More Updated application data...for your viewing pleasure.

btw I applied to 12 or 13, and it was worth it in my opinion. Uf was my number one but I didn't want to risk not getting in and have to wait another year. I do think there is a law of diminishing returns though...but you have to decide that for yourself.

Wow, so last year someone applied to 45 schools, and another person 43, and they did not get in anywhere? What a waste of money. Sad.

If you are living your life - or in school - I would be very surprised if you were putting maximum effort into applying for so many schools.

Instead of filling out so many apps - make sure the ones you do fill out are excellent. Put your best foot forward, and forget trying to keep up with the jones' applications.

I applied to 11 schools. I've had 4 interviews, all of which I got wait listed at. The rest I either just recently applied or they don't start interviews til jan/feb. Yes, it is expensive, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper then not getting in and having to wait another year and missing out on a year of pharmacist salary.

I actually applied to 9 schools, and was offered 7 interviews thus far. 1 of the last 2 schools doesn't even start interviews until January, so I'm hoping to go 8 for 9 🙂... I'd definitely say the more schools you apply to, the better the chance for interviews! Good luck!
hey if u don't mind, can u share ur gpa and pcat if u took it??
thanks

I applied to 14 so far and only got one interview. I have not finished all my supple application for the rest. I left 4 out and maybe spent money on them later. I spent so much money on applying and only got one interview.

Oh man, that frightens me. I'm in the process of finishing up my supplementals for 10 schools and I'm afraid of not even getting any interviews, probably because my stats are subpar.

last year i applied to 17 schools throughout the US (i'm from california). i received 2 interviews: UW and Howard Univ. UW rejected me a few weeks after the interview, and i was waitlisted to Howard, but never got pulled from it.

this year, i applied to 3 in california and received interviews for 2: loma linda and touro. i got accepted into both loma linda and touro.

i think the main reason is i applied late in the admissions cycle last year, and applied super early this year. another reason is this year, i've already finished all of my prereqs. so the moral of the story: apply early & finish as many prereqs asap!! 🙂
