I am wondering if anyone has gone through this process. I’m applying to DO schools in September once my MCAT score comes in. If my mcat score isn’t that great of a score, am I able to state a future mcat date? I have heard of people applying as late as January and still get acceptances. When should I aim for a retake (if needed) and still be on time for DO schools? I hope this makes sense.

Applying in January is extremely late even for DO schools even though people still get acceptances. Furthermore, most schools will only consider the September MCAT for matriculation though some schools will still take a January MCAT. I do not now what those schools are, you'll have to look that up yourself. You should note that the last MCAT date for 2018 is September 18th meaning that the only time you could reschedule an MCAT is in January.

How did you do on practice tests prior to taking it?

People certainly get interviewed late in the cycle but it depends on the school, and it gets more competitive the longer you wait. Sometimes your application will go on hold if they are waiting for grades etc. which could push your application back. Its hard to say, but applying early and having things done early is important. Having said that, do what you have to do based on what position you are currently in!
