I have applied to MD schools and just recently decided to apply to DO schools, after months of contemplation.

One thing that concerns me is that I might be late for the party. I know that our respected Goro says that anything before Thanksgiving should be okay, but my DO friends tell me that it's definitely late as many people would have gotten their acceptances around this time.

I have a 3.62 cGPA and 3.52 sGPA along with a 512 MCAT and am an ORM living in VA. I have shadowed a DO doctor and am actually working with her and got a LOR from her to submit to AACOMAS if I were to submit my primaries.

I was planning on applying to the following schools:
VCOM - Virginia
PCOM - PA
DMUCOM (I haven't taken the SJT yet tho...)
UNTHSC/TCOM (I know they only accepted 17 OOS applicants according to ChooseDO explorer but still the tuition is so attractive...)

I was reluctant of CCOM due to their tuition (73K seriously???) and schools on the west coast as I am not a big fan of the location. Nothing against the west coast though!

I was wondering whether I should apply and if I were to any suggestions to my school list would be greatly appreciated!

Apply to OSUCOM. They will like the MCAT

It's fairly common for people to apply MD only, freak out that they don't have any interviews in by mid-November, and then apply DO in November or even later. Since AACOMAS is so much smaller than AMCAS, it processes/verifies applications much more quickly. Ideally, you would have applied in May/June, but it is not unreasonably late to apply now, especially with your MCAT.

Like others have said, your MCAT will catch eyes. It's not egregiously late so it's safe to move forward but keep in mind you may end up getting interviews later in the season which may mean you sit on a wait list for some schools. But you have a good chance of someone taking a chance on you.

According to Goro, before Thanksgiving is fine. Your MCAT is strong for DO so you shouldn't worry about applying on the later side of on time. For motivation, I'm currently attending TUNCOM, where I applied in October. I'm also ORM, east coast. Had average stats though. Their cycle runs a bit later than other DO schools so you may want to toss them an app if you're worried. They'll also like your MCAT.

It's not too late. TCOM will be a donation.

Suggest adding WVSOM, KYCOM CUSOM, LECOM, MUCOM, NYITCOM, TOURO.NY

Phew, that's a relief that I'm not too late for the party. I guess I will go ahead and apply!

So I guess it would be reasonable to think of getting interviews in the Spring of the next year if I were to get some. At least, that's better than no chance of getting interviews 🙂

Notice that TCOM uses the TMDSAS application system, not AACOMAS.
It doesn't mean you can't apply, but it would mean yet another application to fill out.
The TMDSAS deadline is November 1.
Oh, thank you for this information! I had no idea TCOM was using TMDSAS.

Would it be okay to ask when you got your interview offers for DO schools after applying in October?

Phew, I guess the before Thanksgiving still stands despite the pandemic. (every premed is getting more and more neurotic haha)
It's sad that TCOM will be a donation, their tuition seems amazing 🙁
Thank you for the recommendations. I was wondering about your thoughts on UNECOM and TOURO Nevada.
Also, I've been trying to do my research, but the only school I can find that emphasizes research is PCOM. Are there any other schools that emphasize research?

I interviewed at Touro Middletown in Jan and TUNCOM in April. I have no insight into why I got only Touro interviews, no others.

UNECOM is terrible. Do not go. The people I know at Touro schools don't have good things to say. Before I interviewed at the one in California the school set me up with a 2nd-year to talk about his experience. His endorsement could charitably be described as middling- the best thing he had to say was they get all the Jewish holidays off lol. And if this is the person the school is choosing to sing their praises I wonder what the other students think.

Just for some insight OP, this kid dropped out of UNECOM and has spent the remainder of his days bashing every angle of this school. He has been telling others that if he could do it all again, he would go to PA school. This might hint at his commitment to a physician level education prior to matriculating. My only advice is to not limit your research on this school by this persons opinion.

I know several current students that have not shared this experience. I visited the campus recently and it is in a beautiful place. They also match many in the New England region if that interests you.
