Hi all, I am currently applying to MD only programs but I want to be explored to some research too, and may consider the MSTP stuff if I am really into it. I wonder if it's really hard to do so?

no, its not hard from what i've heard at mstp interviews and md interviews.

some might make you wait til ms2. you should contact programs now to see how they view it

It's usually not hard to transfer in. I know several at my school that did so. To be fair, it's not an MSTP, just a regular MD/PhD.

You'd have to talk to schools about the chances of managing to get into the MSTP program once you've been enrolled in the MD program. I have a friend who tried to, but was turned down every year he applied. He'll have an MD-PhD when he graduates, but did not receive anything close to the funding that an MSTP student does.

You don't have to be a md/phd to do significant research as a med student or as an attending.
