Just wondering who else applied to NYCOM. I have sent in my app., and I guess just waiting to receive something from them. I have heard that they dont send out secondaries, just cards, granting you an interview, and that is when you fill out the secondary. I was wondering if any current students, or anyone, knows how many interviews they grant. If they dont send you a card, granting an intervies, do they send you a rejection letter? or are you just left wondering? Any info. would be much appreciated. Thanks

SoCal: i applied to NYCOM for this upcoming year starting Fall 2002 and i got a postcard saying that they had received my AACOMAS application about a week after i submitted it back in november. since then, i have not heard from them at all. i also met a few people that did not hear anything from NYCOM until they called the admissions office a few times to bug them about their applications. only then were they granted interviews! anyways, that's my experience with NYCOM...hopefully someone else will have more info for you.

I will be attending NYCOM on August, so maybe I can be of help with this question. I submitted my application late December 2001 (just in time with the holiday rush <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> ) and got an interview invitation around February. They did not send out secondaries like other schools, instead you fill out a secondary once you get to your interview. It's pretty straight forward asking you your experiences, employment, and the like (having a resume comes in handy), and one essay question as to "Why NYCOM?" is at the end. They would also ask you to send in Letters of Recommendation from 2 science faculty, and an optional, but definitely recommended letter from a DO. You should have the letters sent out as soon as you get your interview appointment, just in case problems arise. It usually takes them 2 to 4 weeks to sort out your materials, so you should be hearing from them around that time. I believe that they interview around 650 people for 250 seats...I think.

You should follow-up your application if you don't hear from them afer a few months, just to confirm that they do have it. They have very nice and helpful ladies in the admissions department who are very patient in answering inquiries from over-anxious applicants (i.e. me 😛 ).

NYCOM has a very good reputation in terms of training very capable physicians, and is located in a woody/laked area in Long Island (very nice  ). I can't wait to start.

Goodluck. 😀

Thank you very much for that extremely informative post. Good Luck, and hopefully I was be there in about a years time. (I grew up a little west of the school, and am now living in San Diego.)
