Applying to SMP at the same time as med school?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone ever done this? Would it be risky to do this for a school that has SMP and Med SChool when applying to both?

no lots of people do it. You don't need to apply that early for SMPs though so you could wait till the fall/winter to see if med plays out, to try and save some $

Georgetown smp applicaton opens in december and ends in may for fall 2011 season, if you don't have any acceptences by january you can still start the application. Even if you get accepted to medical school in summer the only thing you will be loosing is you deposit for the smp.

No, it's actually a smart thing to do. You're not going to waste a year if you don't get in med school.

No it's a perfectly reasonable thing to do. However as many people have said many SMPs don't have rolling admissions, so apply early to the few that do (I think Georgetown is on this list) and wait to the last minute for all the rest so you don't waste application fees.
