Hello everyone

I'm taking OAT in late November or early December and was wondering if this is too late for applying cycle. I saw some articles saying that applying late for optometry schools will have more disadvantage due to more competitiveness... 🙁

I have 3.4 GPA, over 80 hours of Optometry shadowing, around 80 or 90 hours of volunteering. I'm also from South Korea so I can speak English and Korean, my first language is Korean. I was involved in different organizations in campus, was selected for vice-president, secretary and etc in other clubs as well.

So what will be my chances if I get around 320 OAT score or above??
I am wanting to go Oklahoma , Memphis, Saint Louis or Mid-Western schools

Thank you !

I feel like most people don't know this: YOU DON'T NEED TO HAVE TAKEN YOUR OAT TO APPLY.
Most people hear about this but don't know how important it is: APPLY EARLY. APPLY NOW. APPLY YESTERDAY. Most schools (Berkeley is the only exception I know of) do rolling admissions, meaning they start filling up the class from the beginning of the cycle. So people at the first few rounds of interviews are competing for maybe 100 spots, and the standards of admission are lower. As it gets later in the cycle, people are now competing for maybe 5 or 10 spots, so it does get much more competitive. At some point, even if you have great stats you may be accepted but all their spots are filled so really you end up on the waitlist and just have to hope other people withdraw their seats. Basically, it is in your best interest to apply as soon as possible. So do it now! Schools know your OAT scores will come eventually.

send me a message if you have more specific questions or anything.

Nope, not late at all. Just submit your apps on optomcas right away, anything extra the school needs from you will be updated later
