I am in a gap year currently and am planning to apply in the upcoming cycle. I am intentionally maintaining my residency from my home state because my state school is known for taking a large percentage of IS students even with lower stats. However, I currently live and work in another state. When I apply does anything (secondaries, etc.) come via mail, or is it safe to apply using my address from home?

Do your parents live there? If so you are fine. But if it's just some address that you used to live at, probably not a good idea.

Yes, my parents live there. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't putting myself at risk for missing important mail, since it would take at least a few extra days to have my parents forward any mail to me. From what I've read, though, it looks like most correspondence happens over email rather than paper mail, right?

Yes that's right. I didn't get any paper mail until the II/acceptance stage, and even then it was basically a copy of an email I got a week earlier.

Though if your state school is UIC, I think they only send acceptances via pony express.

Don't just "play" legal -- BE legal. Maintain your drivers' license, car registration, insurance, voter's registration, taxes, etc. in your "home" state as well. Find out what it takes to maintain residency officially and play within the letter of the rules. Could be some paperwork and a few visits "home" is all you need to stay legal.

Some states may check, and if your residency is determined to have been bogus, that's considered dishonesty and may be grounds for rescinding an offer or "adjusting" your tuition.

@DokterMom Yes, I have looked into the residency requirements and I will have the proper documentation etc. Thanks!
