out of all the schools (yes they have posted sept to april) how long do they really interview? and how far are the interviews scheduled.

Anything on UPenn, Yale, Mt. Sinai, Harvard, Columbia? I'm pretty sure they go fairly late for interviews...still waiting!

Anything on UPenn, Yale, Mt. Sinai, Harvard, Columbia? I'm pretty sure they go fairly late for interviews...still waiting!

Harvard has given out all of its interviews by the end of today (only a couple will trickle out by Monday) according to another SDNer that called the admission's office.

Yale, Columbia and Penn interview invites must be winding down since they give decisions in March and its almost Feb.

No clue about Mt. Sinai.

to give some sort of idea, i just received a harvard (new pathway) invite today for the first week of feb....

(but i am trying to reschedule 😵/=( )

out of all the schools (yes they have posted sept to april) how long do they really interview? and how far are the interviews scheduled.

it seem schools are still sending out interviews. I also just saw someone get an interview at WF... so there still out there good luck all

Emory interviews until the end of February. They send the invite about 2 weeks before.

I can tell you that I have an interview at Mt. Sinai in early March so they at least interview until then.

Is it just me, or do you find it odd that they send out the invite super-early? I got my invite for a January date in like, November...

Case Western stops giving interviews by mid February, so I'd imagine no more invites at this point. From what I've heard, they have a huge waitlist because they hardly accept anyone directly from the interviews

I just got an invite from Johns Hopkins, scheduled for end of Feb.

Is it just me, or do you find it odd that they send out the invite super-early? I got my invite for a January date in like, November...

I was really curious about that, so i looked over some other posts for Mt. Sinai. It turns out that most of the people who were invited in October for December or January were all waitlisted. So maybe its for the people they aren't extremely interested in. This was a major downer but I am still going to give it my all. Have you heard back from them?

Two weeks ago RFU said they would interview through end of April and possibly into early May. Strangely, there are few indications of scheduled upcoming interviews, so maybe something changed.🙂

I know May 15th is the last day that we can't hold a acceptance except for 1 school. Has anyone ever heard of a school offering an acceptance after or on May 15th to a student that wasn't on the wait list but may have just had a late interview (say April of May)? I am under the interpretation that May 15th is the unofficial last day for a school to offer you an acceptance without coming from the waitlist. Thanks

with all the med schools anything is poss... they need to fill their classes anyway they can. you may be wait listed and never know it. I do believe they will let you know before May 15 so you can make a decision. if you apct. after May 15 you will lose you dep at what ever school and may be too late for Fin Aid. I know there is a lot of movement after fin packages are sent out and after may 15th I am holding 4 places right now and I am not alone. I also have 3 more interviews.

AAMC Recommendations for Medical School Admission Officers

The following recommendations are promulgated by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) to ensure that applicants are afforded timely notification of the outcome of their medical school applications and timely access to available first-year positions and that schools are protected from having unfilled positions in their entering classes. These recommendations are being distributed for the information of prospective medical students, their advisors, and personnel at the medical schools to which they have applied.

The AAMC recommends that:
  1. Each school:
    1. Publish annually, amend publicly, and adhere to its application, acceptance and admission procedures.
    2. Utilizing an application service abide by all conditions of its participation agreement with that application service.
  2. Each school:
    1. Between August 1 and March 15 notify the AAMC Section for Medical School Application Services of all admission actions within four weeks of those actions being taken.
    2. Between March 16 and the first day of class, notify the AAMC Section for Medical School Application Services of all admission actions within seven days of those actions being taken.
  3. Each school notify all applicants - other than Combined College/M.D., Early Decision Program (EDP), and deferred matriculation applicants - of acceptance to medical school only after October 15 of each admission cycle. It may be appropriate to communicate notifications of decisions other than acceptance to medical school to applicants prior to October 15.
  4. By March 30 of the matriculation year, each school have issued a number of offers of acceptance at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class and have reported those acceptance actions to the AAMC Section for Medical School Application Services.
  5. Prior to May 15 of the matriculation year (April 15 for schools whose first day of class is on or before July 30), each school permit ALL applicants (except for EDP applicants) - including those applying to M.D./Ph.D. programs and those to whom merit or other special scholarships have been awarded:
    1. A minimum two-week time period for their response to the acceptance offer.
    2. To hold acceptance offers from any other schools without penalty.
  6. After May 15 of the matriculation year (April 15 for schools whose first day of class is on or before July 30), each school implement school-specific procedures for accepted applicants who, without adequate explanation, continue to hold one or more places at other schools. These procedures:
    1. May require applicants to:
      1. Respond to acceptance offers in less than two weeks.
      2. Submit a statement of intent, a deposit, or both.
    2. Should recognize the problems of applicants with multiple acceptance offers, applicants who have not yet received an acceptance offer, and applicants who have not yet been informed about financial aid opportunities at schools to which they have been accepted.
    3. Should permit accepted applicants to remain on other schools' waiting lists and to withdraw if they later receive an acceptance offer from a preferred school.
  7. Each school's acceptance deposit not exceed $100 and be refundable until May 15 (except for EDP applicants). If the applicant enrolls at the school, the school is encouraged to credit the deposit toward tuition.
  8. After June 1, any school that plans to make an acceptance offer to an applicant already known to have been accepted by another school for that entering class ensure that the other school is advised of this offer at the time that the offer is made. This notification should be made immediately by telephone and promptly thereafter by written correspondence delivered by regular or electronic methods. Schools should communicate fully with each other with respect to anticipated late roster changes in order to minimize inter-school miscommunication and misunderstanding, as well as the possibility of unintended vacant positions in a school's first-year entering class.
  9. No school make an acceptance offer, either verbal or written, to any individual who has enrolled in, or begun an orientation program immediately prior to enrollment at, a U.S. or Canadian school. Enrollment is defined as being officially matriculated as a member of the school's first-year entering class.
  10. Each school treat all letters of recommendation submitted in support of an application as confidential, except in those states with applicable laws to the contrary. The contents of a letter of recommendation should not be revealed to an applicant at any time.

I didn't mean to burst anyone's bubble but this is just a guideline by the AAMC. So anyone interviewing after March 30th is pretty much going for a waitlist spot but there is always May 15th.

thank you for the info!! this mean waiting will soon be over!!!! Question... I have a school that I interview Feb 20th this school is very slow to answer they say 10 to 12 weeks... does this mean they will have to let me know early or am I already wait listed and don't know it... wasting my time and money. so for all March interviews they have to answer before March 15 because they have to give you 2 weeks to decide. wow

I think you're misinterpreting that statement slightly-although you're probably correct in that the schools have granted all the initial acceptances by that point, they could still give them out so long as they don't have a 100% yield. Since no school does, every school gives out more than the number of seats in each class (although not necessarily at once, some wait). So you could interview on April 1 and get accepted as acceptance #151 for a class of 150.

But realistically, if you're interviewing that late, you're getting put on the waitlist.

I totally agree with what you said. The guidelines just say that schools have to offer the acceptances not actual have acceptances. So there still is hope considering they will offer more spots than their actual class size. With that being said, it is safe to say that if you interview after March 30th you will probably be interviewing for a wait list spot.

Anyone know anything about Georgetown?? I had gone through all of my schools' websites/e-mails, and put all of this info into a spreadsheet for myself recently, but Georgetown's stuff was totally mum on this issue.

I see someone put Miami down as April, but I just spoke to admissions and they said they're going to continue giving invites out through February, and that they interview through March.

No, not exactly. If a school has a class size of 155 students, they only need to accept 155 students prior to March 30. If only half of them accept, they still have (roughly) 77 slots to fill at that point. They may choose to fill these directly from the waitlist, or from those who are still interviewing.

Since there are few schools who will continue interviewing that late, though, it's only a concern for a small group of people (relatively, of course).

Sorry . . . I guess I was confused about the aims of and proper sources for this thread. I thought people were posting the best info they had about these places (which is why I listed my source for all of the ones I added/edited . . . figuring that people would edit if they had any better info . . . I thought something was better than nothing). Some of my info (e.g. my info on RWJMS) was very recent - I got the "complete" e-mail from RWJMS on Jan. 10th that said they interviewed through March 2008 with OOS generally being interviewed in Fall/early Winter. Thought that was helpful info . . .

So - just so I'm not confused anymore - is everything on this list info that people have gathered straight from a human at the source?? (e.g. phone call or interview??) It would be helpful to know that. Obviously, we can all go to these schools' websites, but it's nice to have it all collected in one place.

Thanks.

Are you certain Vermont is only interviewing for waitlist?

I think you might be misunderstanding what this person means when they say waitlist. From my understanding, almost everyone gets waitlisted before getting accepted. This is because of a few things, like Vermont is a very small state, they take a certain amount of people from the surrounding states, etc. Even if you look at MdApps, most of the people who were accepted were waitlisted first. I interviewed there on the very first day of interviews and I was Out-of-Area waitlisted on October 15th. So, I don't think it means the exact same thing as the other waitlists. I think one has a bit more of a chance to get in off of the waitlist at Vermont than at other schools. People, feel free to correct me if I am misinformed.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

I was informed that Boston Univ stops interviewing in mid-Feb

I just had my Temple interview yesterday. I asked a lot of questions about this (because I was annoyed at the waitlist-only issue like you guys). She said that right now the class of 180 is full. I asked if they usually accept about 2x the class size and she said "oh, at least" implying that they will offer a fair number more than 360 acceptances. From here on out, they will only be making offers as people withdraw their acceptances. She explained that everyone gets a score (of sorts), and the score for getting an acceptance is higher now than it was in the fall. Someone asked whether people who are waitlisted now will be put in the same pool as people who were waitlisted in the fall, and she said that people who are waitlisted now (that would have been accepted in the fall had they interviewed earlier) will be pulled first. I hope that helps answer some questions. Everyone I talked to seemed to agree that there is a lot of waitlist movement.

Does anyone know about UPenn?

That may be true for Temple, but I have a reason for why there won't be as much waitlist movement at schools which traditionally see a lot of movement.

The sheer volume of applications schools are seeing this year (10,000 at UMB if I remember correctly, 11,000 at NYMC) means that tons of people are getting rejected from tons of schools. Those who are lucky enough to get an acceptance are probably getting accepted to only one school--at the most, a small handful. Whether they'll easily give up their seats is doubtful. They'll likely just stay put wherever they've been fortunate enough to be admitted.

In the end, schools like Temple will probably even see a surplus of accepted students who they didn't expect to matriculate. Rather than admitting even more students off the waitlists, these schools will have the opposite problem of finding room for their bloated entering class.

ooch..this is so depressing....I am on the high priority waitlist of my top choice school...does this mean I might not be accepted?......dang..that will hurt...but you know what?..I remain cautiously optimistic.....IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL

Haha I'm going to be placed on the waitlist for the only school I've gotten an interview at, so my prediction's loaded with jaded negativity. Doesn't hurt to be realistic, though.

That way, the only surprise we'll get is a good surprise.

UVA>> I called today, they said the last day of interviews would be March 6th.

By the way, last day for Buffalo interviews is April 23rd

RUSH During my interview they said that they interview for open spots all through March, not just for waitlist spots. You're good to go!

u got 19th of march jefferson , i got 26th of march for drexel. Now that is late.

I interviewed at Yale yesterday, and heard from the mouth of the Dean himself that they interview through the end of February, and give full consideration to all of those students as they do non-rolling admissions.

(Also, I was invited to interview only 2.5 weeks ago, so it is very possible that there are still invitations going out)
