Are my EC's boring/inadequate?

So I am currently a junior (graduating 2016), but I plan on taking a gap year so that when I apply my son will be entering kindergarten! Basically I feel like my EC's are kind of average, maybe below average and since I have another year to add to them before I apply I would like to find out what I should address. I plan on working full time during my gap year as a lab tech or research assistant as well so I suppose that is another thing to consider. Thank you in advance for your help!

(Also all hours for EC's are calculated including the year between now and when I send in my application next June.)

Major: Biochemistry / Molecular Biology
GPA: 3.8 cumulative / 3.78 science
MCAT: Plan on taking it early 2016

Clinical Volunteering:
ER patient advocate: 2 years / 500 hours
Doula: 1 year / 400 hours
Shadowing: 40 hours

Non-Clinical Volunteering:
Academic Honor Board: 2 years / 20 hours (basically just vote on punishments for students who cheat it is surprisingly rare for the committee to meet)
Habitat for Humanity: 1 year / 50 hours
Reading Mentor: 1 year / 300 hours (you read a book at the same time / pace as a child and discuss it with them throughout, super fun!)

Leadership:
Manager at McDonalds: 5 years / 8,000 hours

Research:
1 year / 500 hours

You're fine. Couple your EC's with your non-trad status and you have nothing to worry about.

You're solidly average/above average I'd say. Try and spice it up with some interesting stuff this year and you can definitely propel yourself to the solidly above average.

Where are you planning to apply?

Are these EC's inadequate for Harvard? Likely yes. To get an acceptance somewhere? No.

While I would LOVE to get in anywhere, I am strongly hoping to be able to stay in Massachusetts as that is where my fiance's job is as well as my son's school. So I would like to maximize my chances of getting into one of the four Mass schools. :/

Thank you ZedsDed and sliceofbread136 I'm relieved to know that I am doing alright! 🙂

They look great to me. If you aren't accepted to medical school, it definitely won't be due to your ECs or gpa. Just kill the mcat and you're in great shape.
