So I am currently a junior (graduating 2016), but I plan on taking a gap year so that when I apply my son will be entering kindergarten! Basically I feel like my EC's are kind of average, maybe below average and since I have another year to add to them before I apply I would like to find out what I should address. I plan on working full time during my gap year as a lab tech or research assistant as well so I suppose that is another thing to consider. Thank you in advance for your help!
(Also all hours for EC's are calculated including the year between now and when I send in my application next June.)
Major: Biochemistry / Molecular Biology
GPA: 3.8 cumulative / 3.78 science
MCAT: Plan on taking it early 2016
Clinical Volunteering:
ER patient advocate: 2 years / 500 hours
Doula: 1 year / 400 hours
Shadowing: 40 hours
Non-Clinical Volunteering:
Academic Honor Board: 2 years / 20 hours (basically just vote on punishments for students who cheat it is surprisingly rare for the committee to meet)
Habitat for Humanity: 1 year / 50 hours
Reading Mentor: 1 year / 300 hours (you read a book at the same time / pace as a child and discuss it with them throughout, super fun!)
Leadership:
Manager at McDonalds: 5 years / 8,000 hours
Research:
1 year / 500 hours
