Hi. Is it possible to find a part time position in a pharmacy. I am a veterinarian that is applying to pharm school for 2009. I can't just volunteer as my life is sucked away by vet med. But, I would like to try to find two part time positions in a pharmacy (to try to get close to my income for right now). This will also give me experience. It can be retail or hospital or WHATEVER. Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions? Thanks!

You shouldn't work for competing companies. Other than that, you'll just have to put in some applications to a few different pharmacies. After you put the applications through, I would talk to the pharmacy manager or technician supervisor depending on where you apply and tell them that you want to change careers or whatever you feel like you need to say.

Good luck! :luck:

Just out of curiosity...why are you leaving vet med?

I love the medicine, but not the industry. I also want to make better money. I am already a pharmacist for my patient's, so I decided to make a career change.

Thanks...how about a hospital and a retail? They are opening a new publix near me and there are plenty of hospitals. Would they work the same or should I approach them differently?

Retail and hospital are fine. You could probably do both. However, I would make sure that both companies are ok with you working elsewhere.

Perhaps you can do part-time at Publix or another retail chain and then PRN (as needed part-time) at a hospital.

Good luck! :luck: Let us know how everything goes. 🙂

In addition to the suggestions above, it may even be possible to earn a fair amount of hours over the year with just one job. There are plenty of pharmacies that are in like, dire need of pharmacy interns/techs, although that also depends on your location and the company you apply to. Since a lot of them deal with student interns, they usually have a way to make flexible hours for those who need it. And I'm sure with a busy enough pharmacy, they'll be happy to add some extra hours/shifts for you, depending on how you're hired (whether it's a part time position, casual, per diem). Definitely let them know about your situation during an interview and see how flexible they're willing to be with the hours, as well as how many they are willing to give you per week (but caution: they may also lie during the interview...).
