Hello! Everyone seems to think that scores on practice AAMC, Kaplan, etc tests are good indicators of what you will actually get on the test. I was averaging 30-32 on my practice tests but think the actual test was much harder and that I had to guess (blindly) a lot more. Are people saying that even if the actual test didn't appear to go as well that the curve generally puts you in your usual range or am I just a wishful thinker 🙂

I would like to know the answer to this question myself. Are the Kaplan or AAMC practice tests good indicators of actual MCAT performance. I felt terrible after taking the actual test in April.

Yes, I only took 2 2/3 AAMC tests, and with every one I felt I had done really poorly. I ended up averaging VR 10, PS 12 BS 13. Unlike a lot of people, I felt fine about PS and better about VR, the same on BS. I never felt good about any practice test and did well, so I think you can extrapolate your practice tests scores to the real thing.

I was pretty much in the exact same situation/had the same feelings...I hope that's true too...I guess we'll find out! Good luck to you!

🙂

i think practice tests...AAMC are great indicators especially 6-8...Kaplan PS is harder than the real deal....for me, i freak a lil on the practices but dont really care but on the real thing when ur life is dependent on it, its a lot more pressure and u probably second gues urself more...so really its prob not that harder...

Okay, this is what some professors in the pre med committee told me, don't know if it's true, or because they felt sorry for me after seeing how depressed I was after April 16. They said people who felt they did horrible often end up doing well, and people who thought the test was easy often bomb the test. A friend of mine thought she was getting a 23 ended up with a 36.... if this is true... please let me be one of these people who underestimate their scores...

Im so glad more people feel like this! I totally feel the same way. I was averaging 32-33 on my kaplan practice tests, and felt pretty good going into the real thing. When i left though, it was another story. I felt like I had to guess on a bunch of the physics, and the bio was much harder than i was expecting. I really hope it turns out like my practice tests, I would be so happy with those scores! Lets hope its a good indicator...
