Just wondering if the following classes are included in the Science GPA:

1) Independent Research
2) Phlebotomy
3) Cadaver Practicum
4) Medical Terminology

The independent research has from 1-4 credits and you basically hook up with a professor and undergo some sort of research (although the professors don't do anything really).

Thanks

I know for sure Medical Terminology is not. I think research counts depending on the department that offered it.

I know there is a list of classes and what category they belong to floating around here on SDN. I'll try to find it.

Regarding your independent research, if it was listed under a science then it will count towards your science GPA. For example, my research was listed as "Bio 199" on my transcript so it did count towards my science GPA.

ok thanks for your answers....looks like my research will count and all the others won't (I think). The other classes were not listed on pg 20 of the aacomas site that i was referred to so i guess they are not included.

What is the department heading for "cadaver practicum"? I'd try to count it. Worst case scenario they switch it

I did this for a few classes and it worked for all of them. The key is to not overdo it, because once they start changing them back they are going to check all of them more closely.

Anything from your biology, chemistry, physics, or math department go towards your sGPA

Math is included in the AMCAS sGPA calculation, but not in the AACOMAS sGPA calculation.
