Are withdrawals in last sem grounds for rescindment?

So unfortunately this is one of those things where the meaning gets befuddled when you're trying to search it. I'm not withdrawing an acceptance. I'm attempting to figure out whether or not a W in your last sem before entering med school is grounds for rescindment or if I don't need to care at all. I'm fairly certain it's the latter, but it would be very useful if I could get backed up with some anecdotal evidence from you guys. Thanks.

P.S. To the makers of this forum, rescindment is a word. Please update your dictionary. Tanks.

Call the med school to be sure. Some make you send in a transcript and if you got a C or W your last semester they may withdraw it. Honestly I wouldn't leave it up to random people to give you an answer when you could just call the medical school itself and ask.

Some schools require for you to pass all your classes with at least a C or better before matriculation. You should call your school and ask.

I would definitely call the school. I had a W in my last semester (was taking 7 classes, studying for the MCAT, along with my other EC's while completing an honors senior thesis and I thought it would be a wonderful idea to take an advanced course in Entomology. Ended up dropping it.). But I applied AFTER my last semester so med schools knew about that W before accepting me.

Your case is different because it sounds like you'd be getting it after your acceptance. Call the school.

I dont think it matters. I was in the same boat a few years ago, and the policy was you cant get below a 2.0 (i think) in your classes after being accepted. I emailed the school about withdrawing to go on vacation/enjoy my time before starting and got no response. Since they didnt answer, I withdrew from the classes and nothing came of it.

My situation could be different though because they didnt know I signed up for 2 retakes (in case I had to reapply) until they already invited me to interview.

Whether the withdrawal will affect your chances or not will depend on the school you are matriculating to and the course in question. Call your future medical school to ask for guidance, we cannot answer for them personally. Remember, a C won't get you a rescindment, but a W might, so consider whether toughing it out is possible before making your final decision.

P.S.- This forum does not have a dictionary. That is a function of your browser or phone. Select the word, right click, and "add to dictionary." Most browser and phone dictionaries have pitiful vocabularies that will leave your posts littered with red lines.

It was just a crappy elective class. Seriously, I'm betting 99 to 1 this won't be a problem but it is an annoyance to have this on my record going into several interviews now. Bleh. Might just try and get the prof to take me back into the class.

If you were already accepted and it was 1 non-prereq elective class... And it was a W... I'm like 99% sure too it won't affect you since I've read on some older threads students matriculating in similar scenarios... Assuming you don't have like a ton of W's already

I would still call the school and ask, but if it's any condolence, I highly doubt it'll affect your acceptance.. Sorry!

wait, you already did it?

(not to you, but to the SDN universe).....why do people do things that could have a large effect on their life without checking on those effects?

I know. I'm honestly not worried about the school I just got accepted to rejecting me, but I have some important interviews coming up, particularly one at my state school where I really really really really.....

many really's later....

really really really REALLY want to get into, so it would be super helpful not to have this W in my life. I've decided to go back in, even if it isn't totally necessary to get into med school.

Yeah I did before I posted this, since I know one W in some way outta left field BS course -- it's the type of course that's like "Greatest Stanley Kubrick Films" or "Critical Analysis of Sushi Making" -- isn't going to make one iota of a difference with all my other credentials backing me up.

But anyway, everything's gravy, since at least at my school you can reverse the process if you beg your prof to take you back. So what I did was, I went outside the prof's house with a boombox ineptly singing corny love songs until he felt so bad for my pathetic existence that he took me back into his class. He's even letting me make up all the work I missed in the mean time.

Crisis (if it even was one, which we have no evidence of) averted.

Might still call the school just for fun to check their policy though.

Entomology rocks! Was it at UC Davis?

No it was at a a large university in Florida. Entomology is definitely interesting and a nice break from Human biology. But it can be torture when you're trying to earn a good grade! I did learn quite a bit though!
