Are you a vegetarian?

Dictionary.com:
milk   [milk]
1. an opaque white or bluish-white liquid secreted by the mammary glands of female mammals, serving for the nourishment of their young.
2. this liquid as secreted by cows, goats, or certain other animals and used by humans for food or as a source of butter, cheeses, yogurt, etc.
3. any liquid resembling this, as the liquid within a coconut, the juice or sap of certain plants, or various pharmaceutical preparations.

I am not a vegetarian and absolutely love plant-substitute milks - mainly because I don't like the fatty taste of most animal milks. I also try and minimize the animal products in my diet, so it's an easy substitute.

As I said, people like different things. Just because they like different things from you doesn't mean you need to talk about their likes in a degrading tone.

I'm going shopping later and gonna get some Silk Soy Milk. Will report back tonight or tomorrow as to what I think about it. 😉

I've never liked milk. It just leaves a weird film in my mouth, I feel like it's really heavy and just ferments in my tummy, and now that I'm older I don't do a great job digesting it anymore.

And actually, one of my biology profs pointed out to us that at a certain age, adult humans tend to stop making lactase at sufficient enough quantities to digest regularly consumed milk. It's just that, since it's such a staple in American culture, most adults desensitize themselves to the symptoms of lactose intolerance (or sensitivity, whichever word makes you more comfortable 😉 ) - bloating, flatulence, indigestion, lethargy, etc.

I don't know how applicable that is across the board, but it makes a ton of sense to me. =)

I just personally dislike substitutes (i.e. gluten free pasta for wheat pasta, soymilk for dairy milk, cashew butter for peanut butter) and there was probably a nicer way that I could have worded it.

I think in general internet forums are delicate places to bring up topics and speak your mind as the meaning of your words cannot be determined by inflection and your facial expressions, and also your readers do not know you.

Yes, there was a nicer way to say it. However, there was no need to say it at all.

It can be very difficult to communicate effectively in only text, but there are ways to make your meaning and tone very clear to understand. Use emoticons. Write like you're speaking, not like you're writing a high school paper. Use common sense.

I was a vegetarian for 7+ years because I watched a PETA video and liked wet calf noses.

Then I went to college and smelled bacon. That was the end of that.

You didn't smell bacon before college?

I didn't sit in a room for brunch every Saturday & Sunday filled with the smell of bacon. My family eats it maybe once a year. Health food ftw.

My college had chefs, not cooks.

That should go on a pork industry commercial. Hilarious.

(I was curious why this thread was still alive... happy i checked).

Bacon is the best thing ever.

I would argue that:

Sleeping in
Feeling accomplished
Having the guy/gal you like kiss you
Cuddles
Popcorn at the movies
Baby animals
Skittles

are the best things ever.
I don't need no bacon.

Pretty darn close.

The only veggie that comes close would be fried potatoes... or french fries. Omg chips. OMG SWEET POTATO FRIES.

Sweet Potato Fries with Curry Mayo > bacon
(just by a little bit)

Doesn't seem to apply here yet. I have a much harder time making it through the day without a nice glass of milk in the morning. My breakfast only lasts about 2 (maybe 3) hours otherwise. But I can understand if people don't tolerate it well.

MMMM...bacon!

These aren't real hearts!
