This is a post from my blog that I thought I would share with the forum.

Are You Attractive?

Have you ever wondered what the ideal dental school candidate looks like?

In the real world, a few physical characteristics and some symmetry produce an attractive exterior. Throw in some education, compassion, sense of humor, and a handful of other traits and others will sense your inner beauty. If you have them both, you’re one of the lucky few, but unfortunately for you, most dental schools don’t ask for a picture before they invite you to an interview.

Have you ever seen a bad looking piece of standard 8” x 11” plane white paper? Yea, sometimes the paper is a little thicker or a bit brighter, but the paper is still eight inches wide, eleven high, and pretty close to what I’d call white.

An ideal candidate has great grades. While good grades will leave both of your GPAs around 3.5, great grades will compose GPAs above or around 3.7.

Do you pay attention to what people are wearing? I would bet that most of us are not fashion gurus but do notice when someone at the party looks stunning and when someone looks ridiculous. Just like the clothes we wear, a strong DAT score is a good way to compliment our physiques. Where 22s or better are stunning, 17s and below are ridiculous, and 18s to 21s are pretty enough to talk to given the right set of circumstances.

Here’s the funny thing though, just as some of us wear black so that others perceive us to be a little slimmer, a stunning DAT can cover up some pretty lumpy GPAs. The same holds true on the other side though—the wrong attire can ruin even the best physique.

Every dental school loves to see 3.7s and 22s across the board, but in reality, most of us don’t have it all. However, we all do have something, and whether that be good looks, a stunning outfit, a great personality, or unwavering persistence, relaying your passion and message to your number one dental school—either by way of your personal statement or a personalized letter, could push you from being pretty enough to talk to, to nice enough to date.

Good luck to those of you on waitlists, and good luck to those of you preparing for this June.

P.S. While our physical characteristics are slow to change, if you’re wearing something ridiculous, it only takes three months and some serious dedication to put on a stunning outfit.

All DAT thanks for the hope... In respect of your wonderful analogy I guess you can say "I'm a pretty ugly dude" but as you also said I'm trying to get a "really nice outfit" so two months in the process mabe 2 more to go. I sure hope your right about this 😉

HAHAHAHA. When you want to take off a person's outfit for being so stunning. How does that fit into this analogy of ds? I'm curious 🙂

👍..... I definitely need a new outfit... haha
