I just wanted to quickly say that I know a lot of you, including myself, are very anxious about taking the DAT this summer. But, beside anxiety, how much EXCITEMENT do you harbor for getting ready to study and take the DAT?

Do not let studying for this test make you feel inadequate. Realize RIGHT NOW that you will come across material that you struggled with in classes. You will come across material that you may struggle with at your first attempt of understanding. Here are 2 key things that will help you this summer.

1. Know the details of the material, and THEN you will easily remember the basic material...which is what the DAT tests you over.
The only time I have ever struggled with the sciences is because I was being taught the basics...but not the details! Perhaps it's just my curious mind, but personally, I have always done very well in science classes when I understood the details. If you need to Wikipedia something, or bring out an advanced physiology book...DO IT!!!

2. Have a good and tenacious attitude while studying for the DAT.
Try not to let this one test be such a daunting experience. Don't let this one test intimidate you. YOU ARE SMART. If you have made it this far in your college career, you obviously can learn any new material and re-learn any old material you were taught in class. Once again it must be said: You are smart, and YOU CAN SUCCEED when you take the DAT this summer. With that being said, if you come across any foreign or difficult material...just take a deep breath and relax...and realize you have the capacity and ability to learn it! Keep a good attitude and do not let yourself EVER have that feeling of giving up or that you are too dumb.

This is just one test guys...does it cover a lot of material? Yeah sure...but you can score well if you know the details, and approach the prep studying with a good and tenacious attitude. I hope you guys are motivated and excited like I am about taking the DAT this summer.

Very encouraging thread, nicely written. I'm planning on taking the DAT at the end of August, but I'm going to start studying within the next few days. After studying for LSAT to get into Law School for the past 6 months, I'm extremely excited to finally get back to where my real passion lies; the sciences. I know it's going to a long and hard 12 weeks for me, but I'm not going to give up.

I plan on balancing my study schedule down to a "T" so that I don't depress myself by not going out or doing stress-relieving activities. If I can start studying by 8 or 9am, and be able to comfortably call it a day by 5...then I won't mind going out for a drink or perhaps watching a movie. Even on "days off", I'll perhaps go to the beach for a few hours, come home, pop a bottle of wine, and do some review for at least 2-3 hours. It doesn't have to be non-stop studying for 12 hours a day, and then rinsing and repeating. Finding a balance is key, but of course the majority of the day/week should be expected to go towards the studies.

Anywho, yea...I'm stoked.
