So I'm a reapplicant, I have a 3.8 GPA and 3.7 science GPA. I applied last cycle with a 22Q optimistically hoping for a wholistic review, no dice. so I'm reapplying and Im registered for the April 13 Mcat. And I took a practice test earlier this week and got a 28. ( 9, 9, 10) . On AAMC 8. Today I took AAmc 7 and got a 25 ( 6, 10, 9) . I have great extracurriculars and work experience in a pharmacy. Should I confidently take it on the 13th and will I have a good chance to get in? I'm from illinois by the way. Thanks for any help

Those who are over-represented in medicine (which includes Euro-Americians) historically had the following odds when applying over the last three years:

3.8/22 = 14% chance of success
3.8/25 = 32%
3.8/28 = 59%
3.8/30 = 74%
3.8/31 = 80%
3.8/38+ = 90-93% (which I include to demonstrate that no score gives you a guarantee).

I feel that being from Illinois and having terrific, broad-based ECs would give you better odds than I've cited (due to its lenient state schools), unless you have an LOR raising a red flag, a Personal Statement that doesn't set the right tone, legal issues, or poor interview skills. But if you don't plan to apply to DO med schools, too, I suggest aiming for an MCAT score of 31 (which is the average for all acceptees, even if it means delaying your MCAT for a month or so to add more study time.

Why don't you apply to some of Chicago's DO schools? You'll get the same practice rights, you've already lost a cycle, and to be honest, if you apply to only MD schools this cycle, you're probably going to lose it again.

Your 22 won't get you into MD, and probably wont get you into DO. If you don't take the MCAT again, you're likely not going anywhere. So yes, take it confidently on the 13th and apply with a more reasonable score. With a 3.7 science, many DO schools will take a 26+. Can't say the same for MD schools.

Thanks for the advice guys, I am considering the DO schools and I will probably apply to a few, but Id really like to go MD, considering I get a 28, is there a pretty good chance to get into Md? I just need an interview to prove myself, and it seems like with that 22 I wasn't getting any love, I know if I get an interview I'll kill it.

Applying with a 22 was a bad move (as many told you in your second WAMC thread). You had no chance from beginning. And applying with a 28.....you might be able to get an acceptance to a state school, but I still wouldn't say you have a good chance. With a 28 mcat you are competitive for DO schools and can probably get into the best ones as I had similar numbers and was did well with DO schools.

Honestly though, if you get a 28, I would apply to many DO schools and a few MD schools. 30+ you can apply to more MD. Anything less than a 28 though, I would forgo MD schools. You can try, but it isn't likely. You say you just need an interview, but getting one is the problem.

The average for MD is a 31 i think and DO is almost 27. So use that to see where you will be competitive. Be realistic. Like I said, if you don't have halfway competitive numbers, no one is going to see how awesome your interview can be.

that really puts things in perspective, Im going to take a few more practice tests and see if I can improve, thanks for the advice.

If I were OP I wouldn't feel comfortable applying MD with less than a balanced 30
