I know the 2014 board hasn't even happened yet, but I figured I would get the ball rolling for people like me who are giving it a go next year. Never too early to get started.

Overall GPA: 3.8ish
Prereq (4 courses remaining): 3.8ish
Taking GRE in early summer
No observation hours. I've been deployed or training for deployments since the beginning of '09 or so. I haven't been in one place long enough to get any hours. When I get home from this deployment I plan on volunteering at a joint Air Force/VA Clinic in the area. I'm also planning on doing a couple of volunteer trips to South America which will net me about 100 hours.

I'm currently in the Army (on depoyment #3) so I kinda know what I am getting myself into as far as the military lifestyle, deployments, etc. I'm hoping that is a plus.

Hey! I'm applying for the 2015 term as well. I am a civilian, junior at the University of South Carolina. I've grown up a military brat so I'm accustomed to the military life and don't really know any other lifestyle haha. But here's were I'm at:
Overall GPA: roughly a 3.7
Prerequisite GPA: 3.5
I took the GRE a couple weeks ago and scored a 299 on the verbal (149) and quantitative (150) reasoning and a 4 on the writing portion. I know it meets the minimum score but I'm going to retake it sometime soon and actually study for it next time!
I've just started my volunteer hours and I'm shadowing/volunteering one of my teachers, who is a PT, and will soon begin volunteering at the PT clinic on the Army base here in Columbia, SC (Ft. Jackson).
It's great to see someone else that's applying! I wish the best of luck to you and we should keep in contact throughout the application process!

I may have to wait another year to apply. I just won't be able to get enough observation hours. I also have a couple of science prereqs that were completed online, which one of the recruiters said is a no go. I get out of the Army next May so I might take a sorta gap year to retake classes and load up on observation hours. I'll definitely be following your progress though.

I keep running into road blocks trying to get observation/volunteer hours. The closest Army post is Fort Irwin which is more than 7 hours away. The Air Force has a satelllite clinic nearby but they don't allow any volunteers in the PT dept at this time. The local VA hospital has been less than helpful in finding a position there. I don't expect them to drop everything to help me, but I would think that the VA would at least make some effort to help a veteran. I hate to vent but it's all very frustrating.

That's discouraging about the Sacramento VA... I'm in the same area, and they're on my list as well. Looks like Presidio of Monterey offers PT services: http://www.mamc.amedd.army.mil/calmed/pom_appointment.htm

I haven't contacted them yet, so I don't know if it's a viable option. And it's still quite a drive from Sacramento, but three or four hours definitely beats seven, and you get to be in Monterey when you're done.

I'm also looking into Baylor for the next cycle, and the stats look like this so far:

Cumulative GPA -- about 3.6
Prereq GPA (Two left) -- 4.0
GRE: -- Verbal: 167, Quant: 159, AW: 4.5
Observation: None yet.

I forgot about the Presidio. I'm still in the Army full time so it's hard for me to make such a trip on a regular basis. I'm most likely going to take a gap year after I get out of the Army to strengthen my app. At that time I will be in SoCal so I can make the trip to Irwin or down to the San Diego area to work at one of the Naval facilities once a week or so.

In the meantime I will probably observe at a civilian outpatient clinic. Have you heard of Burger Rehab? They have maybe 10 offices around the Sacramento area with a headquarters in Folsom. They offered me a spot at their main office in Folsom. I hear that their facilities are pretty nice so I might get to check out some equipment that that the VA might not have.

One word of warning about the VA. They require 100 hours minimum. I think they also require a minimum one year commitment.

Let me know what you find out about the Presidio. Good luck!

I just sent my AMEDD pre-screen form to the recruiter this week and I’m waiting to see if I pre-qualify. I’m currently working full time while completing a post bac part time at CCSU. I live in CT so I’m looking to gain some military observation hours at the Groton Navy base or West Point if I can get in there, I’m shooting for the GRE end of August.

Undergraduate GPA: 3.4
B.S Finance & B.A German
Prereq: (4 courses left) 3.7
GRE: August
Observation: 47hours

I may have spoken too soon about the VA. There was simply a miscommunication between the PT clinic and the Volunteer office. They called me on Monday and I am now in the final stages of the application process now. I was just about to start at a civilian clinic next week. They are currently expanding the Rehab center which is very exciting.

It's great to hear that this is working out for you, scrawnyguy!

I JUST contacted my recruiter. I'm SO excited, I don't know if I can go to PT school if I can't get into Baylor. Here are my stats:

  • GPA: 3.78
  • Pre-reqs: should be 3.9 - 4.0, I have physics 1&2 and psychology left to do. It'll be a 4.0 if they don't count my minus grades and that B I got in english comp.
  • Observation: 110 hours so far, mostly orthopedic but a few pediatric
  • GRE: 162V, 161Q, 4.0 AW

I am worried about my ability to get a ton of observation hours like it seems some people do. I work full time (paralegal) and I can't change that because I'm paying for my mom's health insurance. I am doing my prerequisites at the same time and have gotten all those hours since February 17th. I can't fit anything more into my day!! I'm very hopeful that this will reflect on my application.

Now that I'm about to shoot into a rant, I will stop here. Good luck everybody!!

So I did my prescreen and spoke to my recruiter about the rest of the process. I have to go to MEPs by end of summer and fill out a giant security clearance application. So much paperwork!

For people who haven't started yet, you have to track down ALL your records including exact dates for tickets, hospitalizations etc. so get started ASAP. They give you a deadline to get the big security app done and its not a very long time.

Things have been crazy lately but I'm back on it. At this point though I am probably going to have to delay until the next class.

There is a new AR 670-1 coming out in the near future that will apparentally be a lot tougher in regards to tattoos (nothing below the elbow). Those of you that are applying right now, have you run into any issues?
