In the kaplan review notes book it says that 1,3,5,7-cyclooctatetraene (pg 321) is a common anti-aromatic compound but when it came up on a top score test they said it was non-aromatic because its not a planar compound. I searched on wiki and it too said that the compound is not planar. Is Kaplan wrong then?

Also, what happens if the molecule is a radical? Can they be classified as aromatic, antiaromatic, or nonaromatic even though they only have one electron instead of two? Thanks!

I would agree with topscore and wiki on that one. I'm pretty sure it is not planar.

I don't see how a radical could be aromatic. I guess it could be anti or nonaromatic though. Anyone else?
