Keep in mind the article is a bit dated, 2012. There are a ton of dentists in the area, that's for sure. What Monte has expressed in that article has never really come up when we talked to him in person, and the UDA is pretty eager to work with the dental students. I think that the article is right that dentists that practice in the area likely take a pay cut. There are a lot of Mormons in dentistry, Utah is a state that ships out a lot of predents, and many of them come back to practice in their state. On the other hand, the entire state of Utah has less dentists in San Diego. If you want to stay and practice in the city (like most major metro areas now a days) you'll have to be a bit clever to get a foot hold but rural opportunities always exist.
Edit: if the average salary mentioned in the article isn't feasible (158K), than yeah, not feasible lulz
