so in undergrad I skipped class as much as i could (except when they took attendance) and I preferred to study independently.
I am wondering how I could find out which med schools have RELATIVELY little class time?

Someone started a thread that was a typical day at you med school. I think about 30 or 40 schools are on it. At my school, usually only 1 class a quarter requires attendance, and it is usually the non-science - ethics, Interviewing Patients 101. My school, and several others record lectures and post them on line so you can kinda go to class when ya want. Go to class for the first week, get a feel for the prof, and decide to attend or not. Some will tell you if it isn't in the syllabus, you don't need to know it. Others will say they will add to the notes and ask about it on the tests. So just becasue there is lecture time, you don't have to be there.

I would say make it a point to go experience as many profs as possible to see which ones work for you (usually the lectures overlap for a unit or class). If there are a few you like, make a point to go to lecture. If they don't work for you learn it on your own.

Most schools treat you as a "professional" and leave that up to you except for a few classes. I always check out the classes and then decide which ones I need to attend and which ones I can miss.

I would also recommend finding someone that comes everyday and have them cover your butt in case you miss something. I used to do this and get notes from her with a monthly stipend given to her for her efforts. 😀

Considering you posted in the veterinary forums a day ago thinking you should be a vet, you may want to sort that out before you go finding a med school with the lowest contact hours...

Lecture at my school for the most part isn't required. There are "labs" (which are basically just lecture where we go through cases) that aren't recorded though. They are usually useless, but I go on the off chance that something important will be said. It's usually people that haven't studied asking uber basic questions that they could probably figure out on their own if they took the time to crack a book. *end tangent*

Also, our PBL class and doctor skills classes are required. Those are once a week.
