Looking at your current debt, if you could do it all again, would you go to cheaper schools in undergrad (CC) and med school?

What's up with the hydroxymethylbutyrate? Never heard of that before.
Nah, the safety data on Creatine is really solid. It's important to drink at least 64 oz a day of water while taking it, but I drink easily 2x that so nbd. The knock on Creatine was water retention and GI side effects (diarrhea) but the new Micronized formulations of it don't seem to do that. I've probably taken it for 4-5 years with no issues. Creatine gives you just a bit more energy for anaerobic exercise (weightlifting). It lets you punch out that extra 1-2 reps and can help get through plateaus. Basically you need to lift heavy to reap its benefits, though. I started this supplement regimen about a month ago. I was supplement (except protein) free throughout the spring and summer. In that month I've added about 6 lb of lean mass and made some pretty significant gains including breaking through some significant plateaus (bb military x 8 205 -> 235, dl x 8 355 -> 375, bb curl x 8 115 -> 135). I think the Creatine had the biggest contribution here but that's a nice (and safe) supplement regimen, IMO. I'm bulking pretty cleanly, at maintainance + 500 kcal.
What purpose does hydroxymethylbutyrate serve? Has it been effective for you?
Also, for those ppl that don't find creatine helpful, it might be because you skipped the load phase. For it to be effective, you need to load up with like three servings a day for a few weeks to saturate your system.
There's some pretty decent evidence for it's efficacy.
The first link is Cr and HMB, the second is a review of the HMB literature.

So is it assumed that taking HMB supplements is higher yield than just taking BCAAs? I might have to try HMB out
What is a safety? DO?
Nah, it would be an allopathic school with a combination of undesirables like minimal rep, exorbitant cost, undesirable location and the like. You know, lifestyle and bling factors.
Current supplements:
Molecular Nutrition X-factor advanced
Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard
Optimum Nuttition Micronized Creatine Monohydrate
Optimum Nutrition Hydroxymethylbutyrate
I thought you SOAP'd into rads.
Thanks for your response re: creatine. Ever try intermittent fasting for cutting?
Are you training for strength or hypertrophy?
I thought you SOAP'd into rads.
Getting back to medicine, do you still do a lot of diagnostic rads as a IR radiologist? Or do you mostly only do procedures?
I'm not sure if you remember me but I just started at a DO school in August. I had a 3.47 GPA and a 32R MCAT and good ECs. I applied to over 20 MD schools, was interviewed at 3 and accepted to none. I later applied to EVMS Med Master's, Tulane ACP, University of Cincinnati Master's in Physiology, and Temple's ACMS program.
I was rejected from Temple's ACMS program with no interview(would have obviously been my first choice) but was accepted to the other three. I couldn't afford Tulane's program since the school would not give financial aid for the program and all private loan companies wouldn't let me defer paying them back for a year(like you would be able to do with educational loans).
For Cincinnati I looked at their roster and it appeared that many of their graduates ended up in DO programs anyway and on top of that their curriculum for their SMP was extremely rigorous(entire first year curriculum plus thesis and a huge proportion of your grade appears to come from presentations/thesis and not courses) and it just didn't seem like it would be worth it. I found out later though that completion of the program would have gotten me in-state status for Ohio. Unfortunately they had already given my spot away by that time..
It came down to choosing between EVMS and the DO school but it just seemed frightening to me to willingly let go of a medical school acceptance to complete a master's program at EVMS after which I would have to pay out of state tuition for the following 4 years on top of the master's program and undergrad debt. I was estimating having a debt load of around or over 400k for attending EVMS via the SMP program..
I'm still unsure if I made the right choice.. I didn't really feel like I had much of an alternative since the debt load would be so high, I'd be losing a year and there was still a slight chance I might not be accepted to the corresponding MD program..
How come you have no debt? Do you think I made the right choice(maybe it's better you don't answer lol)? Do you think that the merging of the residencies and impending ACGME certification for all AOA residencies might lessen the stigma more and could potentially lead to a blending/unification of the degrees? Thanks!
You mentioned you did a lot of research in medical school. If you are particularly interested in a certain subspecialty going in, how necessary would you say it is to find someone doing research in that area and trying to work with them? For example, I'm pretty interested in GI.
Also, what have your favorite routines been/what has given you good results? The past couple years, I've done lots of German volume training and 5/3/1.
Both.
Hey man,
Do you know a good place to find good information regarding specialties. I'm currently applying next cycle. I know deciding before going to medical school is a dumb idea, but I would like to get a good overall view of some specialties, specifically surgical based specialties and I have an interest in plastics. I currently work in the ED as a scribe and have shadowed a ton of non-procedural physicians, but have absolutely no idea what the surgical lifestyle and working conditions and procedures are like. Of course all the physicians I work with despise surgery, but I find myself becoming more and more interested in it.
Thanks
Interesting. But your priority is size? Just wondering since imho 6lbs of muscle gain should give you more than a 20lb deadlift jump. My experience has been 1lb/20lb instead, and I'm at 375x3x5 now.
Well, I'm not pushing deadlift or squat too hard. I imagine I could lift more than I am but I get a bit of lower back pain with the really heavy weight and don't want to push it. I'm pretty happy with 1.8 x BW for 8 reps.
1) In reference to "taking a pay cut even as attending". What kind of super duper elite boutique did you work for? I hear even big 3 mc partners bank like $400k, you should break that as an attending. Or do boutique partners make even more than that?
a) So do you have an MBA or not? ("u mention MBA trained")
2) How about your pre-med research? Pubs during postbac? Even before that? How many? Journals?
3) You mentioned you might've gone to a diff school. Is it because of your experience @ your school? Disappointed by your match result? Low chick hotness @ selected institution? Why the regrets?
4) How deep do you squat? Break parallel or homo BBer styled above parallel quasi-squat? Ever competed in powerlifting?
Y u no give details after starting ASK me ANYthing thread?.jpg
So let me reconstruct a timeline here: BSCHEME -> IB (2yrs) -> MBA? -> MC(7yrs?) ->
-> MD -> amirite?
What does it mean "primary care hoops"? Tough/excessively lengthy primary care rotation as M3?
Do you take a pre workout drink? Like assault or PRE by ON etc?

Do you DL with one of those support belts?
do you visit bodybuilding.com or misc?
Do you start with lighter weight and increase while doing 5x5, or do you do 5 sets of the same weight?
Do you start with lighter weight and increase while doing 5x5, or do you do 5 sets of the same weight?
5x5 as a beginner?
Sort of, but not really. I started trying to bulk up about 7-8 months ago, but eased into lifting heavy (i.e. made sure my form/technique was solid before doing heavy weight for less reps). I've been doing 5x5 (with the same weight for each set) for about 3 months, and it's been working great. I'm planning on sticking to the technique I've been using until I start to plateau... I was just asking out of curiosity.
