Because CHGME funding of pediatric residencies was threatened about a year ago, residency applicants might be uncertain that a residency program is financially secure. Is it inappropriate to ask at peds residency interviews what would happen to the program if CHGME or Medicare residency funding was slashed?

I've actually asked about funding and the financial situation of the hospital on all my interviews thus far and have had 1/2 of the attendings give an honest answer and express that they think it's a mature question. The other 1/2 would give a less sincere answer but no one has been offended as far as I can tell. One of the institutions that was more of a state funded hospital stated on their first presentation slide that their hospital made a profit in the past few years and they are not concerned about funding.
