Hi guys,

I graduated June 2014 and now it's February and I decided (probably way too late) to ask for LoRs. I emailed 2 science and 1 non science professors to ask them if I could meet up with them to discuss it on campus. The non science prof got back to me in less than a day and agreed to a meeting (great guy, took him for 5 classes). However, my 2 science professors haven't gotten back to me yet. It's been a week so far. If they were on vacation or sabbatical, I'm sure I would get an automatic reply from the school email system telling me that they are away.

Possibilities
1. They saw it and are ignoring me
2. It went in their junk mail (unlikely I think)
3. They accidentally deleted it (I do this all the time with my work email because I select all new emails and uncheck the important ones and hit delete)
4. They are on vacation and didn't set the automatic reply (unlikely, these guys are professionals and one of them is a PI)

So what do you guys think? Should I call them or email them again? One has their lab phone listed on the website and the other has a phone number on his website (he doesn't have his own lab so I'm not sure if it's his personal phone or not). if they are ignoring my email, I feel like they'll get mad if I call them.

I'm really set on asking these 2 professors because I went to their office hours a lot. I genuinely enjoyed talking to them because they were hilarious but I made the mistake of not keeping in touch with them after I finished their class. I didn't talk to any other science professors because of how cold they were. I took Prof A's class 2 years ago and Prof B's class last year.

Don't over-think it. Send them another email or give them a call if you don't hear back from them in 2 weeks. If they don't want to write one, they will usually be quite straight with you. And you wouldn't want a LOR from a disgruntled professor anyway.

I would suggest asking other professors, especially ones whose classes you did well in. Also, make sure you attach your transcript and personal statement (and perhaps your CV) in your email.

Professor [X],

I hope classes are going well, I myself have been up to [Y] and have come to the careful decision to apply to D.O. school. I just wanted to follow up with you on an email I sent you a week prior about a LOR for [Z].

Please let me know what I can do or provide for you in order for you to provide the best possible LOR.

Regards,

Former Student.

Is it required to get a LOR from a non science prof?

those professors are kinda old and senile lol but i guess i'll try. I didn't attach those things because I was hoping to meet up with them and ask them what they needed and to just catch up with them

Off the top of my heads, PCOM, PCOM-GA, and NSU-COM all require 2 sci prof letter and 1 non-sci prof letter if you don't have a committee letter. I opted to not apply to these schools because I didn't have the non-sci one.

Thanks for the help! Okay I see. Well that makes it a tad bit harder. I don't think I had a non-science prof really got to know me. Would a math class be considered non-science for a LOR?

As long as it is not their personal phone call them up, heard stories of profs and Doctors getting upset at that. If it is a work phone it should be all good. I would wait one more week then probably send out a follow up email. Just be polite (as I sure you would be) and it should be all good.

You would have to ask individual admissions to confirm that. Some schools specifically ask for a liberal arts prof while some just non science.

Alright I am going to check that out and do some reading. Thanks a lot for the help.

I would send your two science professor a follow up if you don't hear back from them in another week. It might have been a busy week for them and it was on their low priority

lol I'm getting either ignored or shot down left & right
can't believe this is what is gonna stop me from appying 🙁
