I would like to ask for LOR's from two of my physicians at my home institution but I will be out of town until the very end of September. I can email them and ask for them to write me a LOR or I can leave a message for them to call me, but either way I won't be in town to have a face to face meeting. So I can ask them this way or just wait until I get back at the end of September but that will be so late. Has anyone else been in a similiar situation?

Also how long should I give them?
Do they commonly ask for CV, personal statement, USMLE scores, transcripts when they decide to write a LOR?
I'm hoping that they write a good LOR but don't want a CV redundant LOR, so is there any way to prevent this?

Don't know what others will do but just did that the other day. I'm at an away rotation and decided to ask for a LOR. First, it must be someone who knows you by NAME; who'll immediately recall who you are by seeing your name on his/her email list.
So I email my writer and first apologized for asking for a letter via email and explained my circumstances; that I was out of town and I'm planning on applying early Sept ... then I stated that if they would be willing/able to write a strong LOR, then I'll be more than glad to send them my CV, PS etc.

You may also want to throw something in there that is common to both of you eg if you worked on a research project with them, mention a little bit of it or how great it was working with them or how much you gained from the experience.

Hope this helps a little
my 2cents. Best of luck
