I've seen it written that people who will applying to start med school in the fall of 2004 should start asking profs for letters of recomendation. Is there anyone who feels like they might being applying again who applied this cycle? I feel like it was like yesterday that I asked my profs for letters of rec and I'm wondering if there is anyway someone might recomend going about asking them for new letters of recomendation. Especially since I some of the schools are still interviewing and I'm still waiting on results of interviews. I do know that at least one of the profs I want to ask takes quite a long time to write letters.
Thanks

why would you want new letters? just resend the old ones. usually your premed office does this for you.

I didn't use the premed office at my school.

Your school doesn't have a letter of rec service? Even so, if you have had several interviews perhaps you should wait a bit and see what happens with them. If you are ultimately faced with having to reapply I'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult to ask your old LOR writers to resend letters to schools. I'm sure they have kept copies of the letter they wrote you on their computers. They would just have to print them out again and send them.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. However, here's my plan of attack. I know if I do not make it into medical school (again) I will be asking all six people for letters of reccommendation. It's sort of a pain in the butt for them, but I'm going to ask them in Mid-March at the latest (unless I am rejected from all med school earlier).

I am trying to round up letters of rec from them right now for grad school, and all are saying yes, but it may take a while with the beginning of a new semester or writing grant proposals, etc. In March most will be all right and not really worryign abotu much.

I also need all the letters of rec since I will be no where near this town after May. That way I can have them when I go on my journey somewhere else and send them in to the schools.

Is it too early to ask now. No, but I would also wait until later so they can get more updated info if at all possible.

I think it is a little too early for ask for LORs again, esp if you are still interviewing. Alot of things can happen, and some waitinglists move alot.
But if you feel that your chances are slim, prepare to apply again. you should wait a little longer, so you can have time to do something that wasn't in your previous recs before. such as more research, etc
sending the same recs is a BAD idea. if they didnt get you in the first time, how would they do it the second time? plus...some schools may have kept ur file...they sure don't like to see the same things
