I have been granted an interview for residency in a city that has other programs to which I am applying.

If possible Id like to fly in an do all the interviews in one trip, but I have not heard back yet from the other programs.

I dont know if it is proper educate to make the program that granted me an interview wait a long time to schedule an appointment.

I dont know if it is proper educate to contact the other programs and tell them the situation.

What should I do?

etiquette not "educate"

I would like to know this as well just for future reference.

Really haven't heard this being done if you haven't been offered one yet. It is reasonable if you were offered an interview and wanted to reschedule it in order to interview at multiple programs in one trip. Residency interview process is different from the med school process where this was more common.

I dunno - our student support coordinator (AKA campus mom) told us that it's kinda normal. What's the worst that can happen? They say no. Who cares.

I wouldn't do anything yet - it's way too early. But if a several weeks have passed and you've heard of invites going out from a particular program, it may be appropriate. I wouldn't just send a ton of these, but if there are 1 or 2 programs that you're legitimately very interested in, I'd do it.

I have heard of programs offering 'in the area' interviews. I saw a couple on the interview trail and when one received an invite they'd contact the program and the other usually received one quickly. Similar situation I'd assume. Contact the other school and inform them, you might just get lucky.

I agree that if there are a couple programs you are truly interested in, you email them if you haven't received an interview and you know that they've given out a number of their interview spots.

However, each time you get an interview at a program, I don't think you should email the other programs in the vicinty requesting an interview, which the originial question sounded like.
