Hello,

A little bit on my optometry/opthalmological history. I have had myopia since the age of 15. I had a change in my prescription when I visited the optometrist last week. I`ve worn soft contact lenses (FreshLook) since the age of 20 (for about 10 years now).

Over the past few years, my left eye`s prescription was -4.10 while my right eye was -4.50. Oddly enough, my left eye`s vision has "improved" to a -3.50. My right eye`s prescription has not changed. However, my optometrist seemed concerned. He told me that I may be exhibiting some minor form of astigmatism in my left eye. He didn`t give me much more information and told me not to worry about it. He told me that he wants me to come in for another appointment to do some sort of "pressure test" and that the day I have that test, I should wear my glasses .

Can someone please briefly tell me about what this "pressure test" is about and briefly tell me about the causes of astigmatism as well treatment approaches and prognosis ?

I am a bit worried about my vision since my mother prematurely had cataracts (unknown origin- no diabetes or comorbid medical conditions) for which she was operated about 10 years ago. Myopia is common in my dad`s side of the family. Other than that, I don`t know of anyone in my family having astigmatism and other visual disturbances.

Thanks 🙂

It sounds like he's just going to check your eye pressure - tonometry.

The above are minor changes in prescription. I wouldn't worry unless your doctor tells you otherwise!

Thanks. 🙂 My eyes are very preciousssssssss (in Gollum's voice-from LOTR) to me. I need to have a good dose of "eye candy" once in a while- one of the few pleasures in life...
