hi! i'm new to this forum. id like to say thank you first to the people who've provided the information ive collected thus far, youve helped my decisions dramatically toward my military goals.

i was just curious as to what asvab scores would qualify me to get into the dental field. ive already taken the asvab practice test in a noisy recruiting office (only about 40 questions total?) and i scored lower than i thought i would. since then, i have been studying with tons of different asvab study guides and books.

my questions is; what score on the asvab is ENOUGH to become a dentist in the military?

thank you for all of your help. please share your personal experiences

No ASVAB required unless you're enlisting to be a hospital corpsman (Dental Techs merged with Hospital corpsman.) All you need is your entrance to dental school for the most part. So, if you want to be a dentist, you need to study for the DAT.

Hope you understand that if you want to become a dentist, then you should first go to dental school, then enter the military if that is ultimately your goal. Good luck on the ASVAB.

If you're taking the ASVAB, it sounds like you're enlisting. As an enlisted, you can be a dental lab technician or a dental assistant (hospital coreman in the navy, not sure about other branches) .

When you enlist, you can get the GI Bill that can help pay for college once you get OUT of the military.

In college, you need to first get your bachelor's degree (usually 4 years and you need to do fairly well in terms of grades) and take the specific science prerequisite courses to apply for dental school.

Most students take the DAT (dental admissions test) and apply for dental school their senior year in college.

I was enlisted in the Air Force, served active duty time, and then went into the USAF Reserves. I completed my bach. degree and then applied for dental school.

Feel free to PM me if you need specific information. I know how confused I was when I first enlisted. Please don't let a recruiter talk you into something you aren't sure about.

Good luck!!!

This is what I did:

Enlisted/ served 3 years and applied for the green to gold scholarship (ask around about it).

Went to school and did ROTC, got an educational delay, took the DAT, got accepted and here I am in dental school. Just that easy, but it will probably take 6 years to do it.

Beware that unless it is stated in your contract, you may not get to be a dental tech. They are trying to downsize the number of dental techs.

Also if you do ROTC, then an HPSP, you will have an active duty commitment of 8 years, they are not concurrent.
