At What Score Would You Retest?

I'm just curious as to everyone's mindset on this issue. I had a set value going into the test, but after having taken it, I drop the number about 2 points.

yea going into the exam, i was hoping for mid thirties but right now anything over a thirty is looking good. :scared:

I think I would retake it again at a 30. I was scoring 37-38 on AAMC 7-9, my GPA (3.5) is a little lower than an average matriculant, and my clinical experience isn't going to be that great. So, I was hoping to make up for that with a good MCAT. 30 would be lower than what I was typically scoing on practice exams, so I would think that I might have a decent chance of bringing that up by retaking.

I think I'd retake it with anything less than a 28. I was scoring 30-32 on all my practice tests. However, the bio was uber-hard. But, it seems, if all the dicussions are correct, that I guessed correctly on more than I thought. A 30 was the goal...

I'm retaking it in August and have a previous score of 30... so I guess that's my cut off, I'd settle for anything 33-34+ at this point

This goes to show that SDN is full of geniuses! Retaking with a 30?? That's nuts. But then again, if I were scoring upper thirties on practice tests, I'd probably do the same.

I would retake at 26 or so. I would be happy with a 30.....I think it's silly that you guys want to retake at the average matriculant score! Unless you want to go to Harvard or something.

My rationale is that because I have a lower than average matriculant GPA, I need a higher than average matriculant MCAT. I dunno. I never want to take that test again, so I hope I don't have to make this choice!

im in the same boat... lets keep our fingers crossed! :luck:

Anything below a 29 will probably make me retest. Fortunately I've worked my ass off in school so my GPA will compensate a little. After yesterday, I've really lowered my standards.

I just want to get the damn UCSF secondary

Last year, I told myself that I would retake if I got below 27. But after going through the med school app cycle, I would advise to retake if you got below 30. The app process is so competitive that I wouldn't risk it.

I would probably retake if I got below a 28. I was so confident coming into the test that I thought I would score at least 30, given that my last few AAMC scores were in the low to mid 30's. However, after yesterday's experience I would be really happy with just a 30. It would be nice to not have to go through that experience again until the USMLE exams!

Below a 30 because my grades are sub-par.

I made a promise to myself that I would get at least a 30 and that is why I will sign up for August if I get a 29 or below.

I do not feel awful about the exam today but you never know.

I feel like my score would be a lot higher if I had a full summer to study. Anything below 30, and I'm retaking. my last 3 kaplans were 33, 29, 30. The only thing it will hurt is my wallet.

There's a poster that got a 34 and dedided to retake because he didn't feel his testing conditions during his initial time were the best conditions and that he could go a few points higher. I thought he was insane for doing so and woulda run with that 34.

To each his own.

There are some people that rightfully see a 34 as sub-par and go for the gusto. I respect that type of attitude because it pushes you to always do better.

NOW, if that person was saying that to yank people's chains then I wish 10,000 hornets in his bonnet.
