Anybody know of famous athletes who have suffered lumbar vertebral burst fractures and recovered to compete again?

Do you mean a 3 column fracture? If so, it would be highly unlikely since a multilevel fusion would be needed. If you are talking about a 1 column fracture, then possibly.
