ATSU-SOMA (Tuition = around 66K not including COL)
Pros
Pros
Pros
- suburban location, 6.5 hr drive/1.5 hr flight from home
- tuesday-talks to supplement case-based learning curriculum
- population health research project in year 2 (good for residency app?)
- 13% of students matched into Peds residencies in 2023
- grading is P/F but "Class ranks are calculated at the end of each academic year and may be requested through SOMA's Dean's Office."
- CHC placement is unknown until 2nd year and most are outside of AZ (students rank CHCs and lottery system decides where they do clinical rotations for years 3 and 4)
- no wet-lab research (is this important for residency apps?)
- many disparaging comments about the school on reddit and SDN
Pros
- small incoming class
- ranked 2nd in number of students practicing in primary care (but no Peds specific data)
- most regional sites for clinical rotations are in WA
- P/F grading system
- traditional lecture style of learning, recorded lectures
- rural location
- very few research opportunities through the school
- mixed reviews on rotation sites
- rotation site placements are decided based on ties to the area (CA resident)
- heavy emphasis on rural-medicine
