Anyone attended or attending UMSL optometry? If so, how did you like it?

Any pros and cons. How about the University Meadows apts.

PM me if you would rather not post publicly.

Hi eyenstein,

with all due respect that was not my question. i need info on UMSL optometry school not the interview procedures.

cdrh,

you asked questons about how did they like it, pros or cons. Obviously these are just opinionated and the interview threads actually tell you what they liked / disliked, prospective pros and cons they see.

For example someone wrote:
"All facilities are in one building so you don't have to go outside to the clinic or labs..."

another wrote: "small class size"

if these things are of concern to you, it will help you determine pros or cons based on how some people interviewed. I did say in my previous post to "start you off" not to answer all of the questions you asked...therefore i believe by looking at some of the "impressions positively or negatively" the students had, it could help you answer some basic questions you may have. I say this with the understanding that you DO want to hear from people who attended or graduated. But for some questions that you "may" have, it can probably be answered by those who have just interviewed there.

Im currently a first year! One of the best thing that I like about the program at UMSL is the amount of resources and support you receive from the facility, staff and students. From what I "hear", other programs try to weed you out. At UMSL that want you to succeed and will work with you as best as they can. First year has been a big adjustment, but Im managing and working my professors. The small class sizes are definitely a plus!

I'm currently a student at UMSL and absolutely LOVE it!!! As you can tell from above posts there is a small class size (44) which was a perfect fit for me since big classes were a little intimidating to me. (My high school graduating class was 55) Some pros of the school: Small class size, AMAZING faculty and staff, diverse externship/clinical opportunities (not so much a big deal first year, but HUGE when you get to be 3rd and 4th years), and good boards pass rates! Now, some pros of St. Louis in general- tons of stuff to do (Sports (Cards, Rams, Blues), Nightlife), pretty reasonable cost of living (compared to other big cities). As for the Meadows it is a popular living option on campus because it's gated and is RIGHT by the optometry class rooms so there's literally a 5 minute commute. It is a little pricey though, but hey no gas for commuting every month. Another option a lot of my classmates also took advantage of was the Villa which you'll learn about when you come visit, but it's more like dorm living. It's also a 5 minute walk to the optometry class rooms. Good luck!
